I'm going to school in L.A. California early next year and need to find out from people like you that know this how much does it cost to live there for a year? Food, Housing (I need to rent an appartment-1 Bedroom or Studio) costs near L.A. or in L.A., Transportation costs, etc.
Any help will be fine. Thank you.
Oh and also, what kind of things do people do there in their spare time when they are not reading?
For housing prices check Craigs List (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/) I live in the Bay Area and spend about $20/week on groceries. I'm not sure what the prices for public trans are in LA but here it would cost you about $60/month for a public trans pass. Or about $600/yr. If you are lucky, you can just make a friend with a car to do most of your traveling.
In LA I hear the night scene is all clubs and bars. Be sure to bring a few "nice" outfits. Cover runs from $10-$50. Drinks are $7ish. (All in USD)

Riiight, the gangs. Everyone should fear the gangs. Where are you going to school? I wouldn't be afraid for my safety in most cases. As long as you aren't out too late alone (as in any big city) you don't have to worry.
I think by "free time" you meant weekdays, after school. I spend my time with friends, in the dorm. But if you aren't in the dorm, I would suggest finding a club on campus you can join to get involved, some way to meet a few people. If you have an internet connection, you can NS a bit.
