Already all pagan celebrations has been changed in the name of new religions. Now they start adding their own!!

I'm not sure what country you all live in, but here in the US there's been a national prayer day since, hell, before I was born. I don't remember wether it's on May 5th or not.

You know their doing this for when people say we haven't got a prayer, Bush can say:

"Well your wrong, we had a whole day of it."

I did not. It's Mexican Independence Day, I know that. I will appreciate Mexican Independence Day and scoff at National Prayer Day. Perhaps I will make a bunny sacrifice to the Goddess of Spring. :p

it did seem particularily wrong to have it be on cinco de mayo. its quickly becoming our "national day of drunkedness"

But back to the topic! What is this all about. Is the day triumph to pray or is the day devoted to praying (for those who do it)?

Intone, O My servants, the verses of God that have been received by thee, as intoned by them who have drawn nigh unto Him, that the sweetness of thy melody may kindle thine own soul, and attract the hearts of all men. Whoso reciteth, in the privacy of his chamber, the verses revealed by God, the scattering angels of the Almighty shall scatter abroad the fragrance of the words uttered by his mouth, and shall cause the heart of every righteous man to throb. Though he may, at first, remain unaware of its effect, yet the virtue of the grace vouchsafed unto him must needs sooner or later exercise its influence upon his soul. Thus have the mysteries of the Revelation of God been decreed by virtue of the Will of Him Who is the Source of power and wisdom.

I say we combine all of these holidays happening in such close proximity (The 1st of May eve thingy, VE Day, Cinco de Mayo, spring rites, and this National Day of Prayer thingy) into one gigantic week-long holy Mexican pagan war-remembering drinking binge!

Speaking of which are any of you old enough to remember the Bicentenial in 1976?

Back then, and I kid you not, we had patriotic toilet paper. We had it with prints of the founding fathers, the US flag, the National Monuments and yes passages from the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Only in America could a person wipe their ass with "All men are created equal", and to prove they where a real American finish up with "Old Glory".

Just a little forgotten American history.
Man we aree such a nation of whores. :D

But we're praying whores. :p

Your border has huge holes in it, and you don't have enough guns to keep everyone away. There has to be a better solution.

He he he! Stupid American thinks Mexican independence day is on May 5, and taking it as a day to shout at Mexicans.

He he he! I mean, it's hard being more stupid and ignorant. It boggles the mind, it really does.

He he he! I can't stop laughing at how ignorant you are. He he he! Not to mention gullible.

Sounds like a good excuse to skip school or blow off work, spin a few fatties, and take a walk in the park. Just tell 'em you were busy praying. Show 'em a photo of the proclamation if they don't believe you. Then denounce them as heathens.

Don't forget those cones, though. Make 'em big - big enough to see God. Now there's a religious experience for you.

I wonder what Karl Marx would think (May 5th is his birthday). Oh, and, IIRC, Cinco de Mayo isn't Mexican Independence Day, it just remembers some battle Mexico won.

Yep.

And it is less a Mexican holiday than a holiday created by American beer companies.

It has long been celebrated in the Puebla region of Mexico, but otherwise is primarily celebrated in the US.

You Yanks have had this for ages. The Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray in 1775, Lincoln declared a day of "humiliation, fasting, and prayer" in 1863, the Congress under Truman created an annual national day of prayer in 1952, and Reagan, in '88, fixed it as the first Thursday of May, every year.

See http://www.nationaldayofprayer.org/history.php for more details.

My natal anniversary!
