Electric Guitar VS Electric Bass
Which one is your favorite?

Guitar, because I play it. I'm trying to get my friend to play bass. But then we need to get a drummer, figure out who sings, decide whether we want 2 guitarists...etc.
Gonna have to go with Electric Guitar, though Bass is very close!

Being a bass player, I am a bit biased toward bass. Don't get me wrong, I love guitar, but I have always just enjoyed playing bass a lot more. For one thing, if you are really good, you have more opportunities for gigs. Good guitarists are a dime a dozen, good bassists are one in a million. Not only that, but without bass, what the hell would be the point of cranking up one's stereo? ; )

Yeah, good guitarists are a dime a dozen. But I'm a guitarist, so I have to say guitar.
Why, the instrument I play of course...
...drums. :D
Cannot think of a name

Well, on one hand you have Bootsy (http://images.warner.de/images-artists/WEA/97761/171688.jpg), on the other Jimi (http://digilander.libero.it/indyjour/images/Jimi%20Hendrix-Picture%20at%20Montery%20Pop.jpg)
Why must you make me chooooose?
I choose Bootsy.

Speaking as someone trying to make a living from live sound work I'll say that low end is what is important, and guitar is just icing on top of a low frequency cake.

It'd be a pretty cruddy cake without icing though :p
They're both cool, and they both complement eachother.

Ah, reminds me of that old joke:
The guitarist of a famous band is waking up in hospital after collapsing on stage. He sees the rest of the band waiting by his bedside.
"What happened?" he asks them.
"Well," says the singer, "There's good news and there's bad news."
"Give me the bad news first."
"They had to remove half your brain." the singer tells him, gravely, "You'll never be a musician again."
"Oh my god!" wails the guitarist, beginning to cry, "Then what's the good news?"
"We got you a bass."

All your bass are belong to us.
Darn you to heck! You beat me to it.
You cannot escape the Bass. Bass knows all and consumes all. Bass keeps the time when the drummer is too drunk or inexperienced(which is why the Sex-Pistols were pretty much screwed from the get go).
Women respond to Bass.
But when I speak of Bass, I don't mean a 4 string electric or an upright. When I want shake the building and fill the dancefloor, I use the only Bass worth mastering : Synthesizers. Anything you can do with a 4-string Electric I can do louder, bigger, crunchier and raunchier on a good set of keys like a JUNO 106, MiniMoog, Korg MS200 or the like. Even my crapulent old Ensoniq Mirage is capable of foundation shaking funk, so long as I massage it right. The result is much deepr, much more layed and full than a plain old bass guitar.
If I had to limit myself to just the choice bewteen the two though, Electric Bass is my answer. The Bass Owns You.

I gotta disagree with ya.
Good guitar players are NOT a dime a dozen.
Guitar players are a dime a dozen.
Good ones are actually hard to find.
I myself play rythm guitar, and from having to spend months looking for a good lead guitar player, i can tell you its almost as hard as finding a bass player who can do more than just hold down the root notes.
As for what makes a good guitar player, I dont care how many different cover songs you can play.
I could give a crap if you can perfectly emulate hendix's solo from Voodoo Child.
I want to see what YOU can come up with.
THATS what separates the good guitar players from the average yahoos.

I couldn't agree more. For all my love of things electronic, a good guitar player can add to and create more from my music than I ever will on my own. Its a no brainer: Two (or more) good musicians working together can equal great music. A good musician on their own can only make good music.
The problem with a lot of guitar players is that they think no one can make great music without them. I've encounetered far to many self-styled Lead Guitarists who think the fact they can play anything at all makes them the centre of the universe. I call it the Wannabe-Rockstar-Syndrome. Putting them in a jam session with 5 or 6 other musicians who can easily outplay them is usually suffiecient to hammer their egos back into alignment.
Finding a good musician for any instrument is something to celbrate and usual pretty humbling. The problem is that too many musicians think they're good when they aren't. A lot of them, for some reason, are guitar players.

I have no idea but I'm about to buy a guitar and learn how to play so I will be taking notes and suggestions in this thread.

Well, lets way up the evidence on my Scales of Justice (tm).
Bass: Big-ass ugly strings which are annoying to play, usually four strings, relegated to backing, but you get a bigger amp
Guitar: Six strings pwns four, showoff potential, better strings, but smaller amps. Responsible for some of the best music created. Clear victory!
You may guess that I'm a guitarist, although not a very good one...

Every famous guitar solo youve likely ever heard had a excellent bass player to accompany them.
A song is only as good as the sum of its parts.

I can call it whatever the hell I like, thank you very much. I will concede, however, that I am unlikely to call anything an 'axe of doom' unless it is, of course, one of your actual prophesy laden cursed axes of doom.

i think that bass and electric guitar ARE BOTH AESOME cause well they both have show off potential like fricken awesome tapping for guitar and awesome slapping for bass.. most songs wouldnt sound the same without bass even with simple bass lines like wiht most AC/DC songs and many other bands.
and well cause i play both :)
Would you rather live on cake with no icing, or icing with no cake?

I don't play both (though I want to learn bass someday), but I agree with this guy. I could never decide between them.

Playing either well requires outstanding technique. I just prefer bass because I have always liked the feel of the bassline. Bass is the soul of music you know. :D Listening to a perfectly crafted bassline is like heaven...
