Why no Zeppelin? Surely Black Dog, Whole lotta love or Stairway at least deserve a position.

Hopefully it's noted somewhere that Hallelujah is a Cohen song. Buckley's just a cover... in fact, he's a cover of a cover, insofar as John Cale's cover of Cohen's overproduced monstrosity is the mold from which later performers cast their own interpretations.

I voted for it anyhow, mind you. Brilliant song, and Buckley does a good job with it (it was that or Dylan).

Yea, I know it was a cover, but i consider the Buckley version to be the best version of what is a brilliant song anyway

I respect your statement, but Cale's version is untouchable.

I voted for Like a Rolling Stone because it is the best song ever.

This has got to be the most poorly complied list of "classics" I think I've ever seen.

Pink Floyd is starting to wear thin. I've heard them probably close to 50 times on the radio in the last 10 days. Led Zeppelin is horrendously overrated and I'm glad they're not on the list, but Duran Duran?!

How does Duran Duran make it and the Who and the Stones don't? "A Quick One" is ten times the song any of these are; and "Start Me Up," while it's arguably the 'Stones worst song, is still a title most of these bands would kill a man to have written themselves.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a good song, but like Pink Floyd, it's played far, far too often by those Clear Channel radio stations for its own good. It's one of those songs that's very easy to burn yourself out on if you hear it too much. And I have.

I'd have to say "Like A Rolling Stone" although I'm kinda leaning towards Bohemian Rhapsody as well.

It was Lennon and Mccartney, I think, but it's still an awesome song. Play it at a talent show, the girls love it!

No offense, but the list of choices seems to be from someone in their teens. Where is, for example, but my no means limited to:

1. Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit
2. Bobby Darin - Mack the Knife
3. Led Zepplin - Whole Lotta' Love or Stairway to Heaven
4. Janis Joplin - Bobby McGhee
5. Elvis - Hound Dog, Heartbreak Motel, Blue Suede Shoes
6. Simon & Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence or Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme
7. Pink Floyd - Money or Time
8. The Beatles - A Day in the Life
9. The Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
10. Ten Years After - I'd Love to Change the World

That's enough for now, but it should illustrate the deficiancy in the poll choices.

I know there's only 10 you could have on the poll, but bah for not including Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Hendrix, The Kinks, etc... ;)

Even Elvis, despite not liking him much.

I vote Wish You Were Here, anyway.

<Applauds> Good answer, good answer. (Sorry, I've watched "Family Feud" lately.)

Thank you. Incidentally, I've met the man from which you've taken your namesake. He signed a Maoist newsletter I happened to be carrying . He's a pretty funny guy.

At any rate, if anyone is interested in the [i]real list, here it is:

1. You Can't Always Get What You Want - The Rolling Stones
2. In My Life - The Beatles
3. Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who
4. Maybelline - Chuck Berry
5. Heartbreak Hotel -Elvis
6. A Quick One, While He's Away - The Who
7. Yesterday - The Beatles
8. American Pie - Don McLean
9. Mack the Knife - Bobby Darin
10. Rainy Day Woman 12 and 35 - Bob Dylan

OK, so that last one is on there just because I'm a stoner and its one of my favorites to play, but it's still a good tune.

Now if I may break down the best pop instumentalists of all time:

1. Keith Moon (Drums)
2. TIE - Jimi Hendrix (Guitar) & Aretha Franklin (Vocals)
4. Stevie Ray Vaughan (Guitar)
5. John Entwistle (Bass)
6. Roy Orbison (Vocals)
7. James Jamerson (Bass)
8. Charlie Watts (Drums)
9. TIE - All of the Beatles (Vocals only)
