Great Orators of the Democratic Party

I sawMr. Kerry's (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050427/ap_on_go_co/social_security) latest comment about Social Security reform and was reminded of some other great quotes by famous Democrats.

"One man with courage makes a majority."--Andrew Jackson

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."--Franklin D. Roosevelt

"The buck stops here."--Harry S. Truman

"Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."--John F. Kennedy

"We're going to do something. We're not going to do nothing."--John Kerry

Yet another reason not to be disappointed about the outcome of the last Presidential election...

[edit]
Yahoo has edited the embarassing remarks out of the link, much to my disappointment.

This link (http://news.netster.com/data/66_ds_558800.asp) does quote him in a similar article.

I think you have made a mistake about who the idiot is. Certainly Kerry isn't Mensa material.

Although not a Democrat (probably wouldn't fit in with the religious crusaders of the Republicans now either), I think Barry Goldwater said some great things.

First intelligent thing I've heard in a while.

We should elect a president from nationstates. Find someone who has a nation high in civil rights, economy, and political freedoms and give them a carte blanche.

It's not like they can screw up much more...

-edit- the thread starter's post confuses me. It's obvious your ridiculing something dumb Kerry said, but I don't understand the other quotes, as they're all famous, intelligent sayings. I really don't get the point you're trying to make.

It's humor. The contrast between the classic quotes from great Democrats and the gibberish that Kerry sputters is funny. Less confused?

It's also sad that anyone would take something he says seriously, but that's another matter.

Maybe, just maybe, we Democrats can have a great oratorical leader like ...

Dubya

I don't have it in me for a battle of wits tonight. I just read Kerry's quote on SS reform and thought that it made a great statement. Almost as great as what other Democrats have said over the years. For someone as intelligent and urbane as we all know Kerry is, the idea that "... we're not going to do nothing." was just genius. The only thing that could surpass that was the idea that "We're going to do something ...".

Yes, thank you.

But then again, you're supporting the undisputed king of dumb sayings. Dubya twists words around and gets mixed up and generally has made every comic's dream come true.

However, the champion of stupid (not dumb) sayings is another republican, the ever famous Dan "Potatoe" Quayle. He said other idiotic things revealing his lack of education or intelligence, but they're not as funny.

Yes kids, it's true. Politicians are idiots.

why are you using a quote by john kerry from the campaign as if it were a response to bush's press conference yesterday?

That's why I voted for supermodels in Mexico. It's not like they can be worse than any of the other guys (they could do better just by throwing darts at a board, in fact), but they are certainly much nicer to look at in press conferences and such.

Gee Whiz, this is so wrong on so many levels.
1. Read the time on the original post. Compare it to Thursday at 8pm EDT.
2. Follow the second link. This doesn't appear to be from the last campaign. If it is, Kerry is far less original that I feared.

yes but the second post is from tuesday. meaning it cant be a response to the press conference.

it does seem to imply that he said it, but i think it was an error. it was a stumbling response made by kerry in one of the debates when he really didnt want to say anything about social security. i googled "john kerry social security" and got no hits with this quote in it from yesterday or today. (i didnt look further back than that). and i got no hits indicating that kerry had made any response to the president in the last 24 hours.
