Yes, well, we have had some amazing music this decade. BEPs, Outkast, U2 coming back, Evanescence, Velvet Revolver, Alicia Keyes, Joss Stone, Usher, and so many more... they've all made amazing contributions to the world of music in the new millenium and I say the 2000s ROCK! :D :fluffle:

U2 is NOT 2000 music... if that was so, I could say Morrissey is and Live and Aerosmith, etc, etc and so forth.
I voted 80s, btw, but 90s can be amazing, too. Same with 60s and 70s. They all have they're share.

I hate to tell you this, but I have a feeling those that I bolded will not be well remembered by 2015, and most people won't even realize that U2 was still around in the 2000s.

U2 recently came out with a new CD, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb". I know. If my dad hadn't had beat me to it, I would've bought it.

Actually Velvet Revolver and Evanescence will probably be remembered since the 2000s wasn't their debuts.

I know that. I own every U2 recording that's ever been released including rarities, b sides, and multinational recordings. I own almost every Smiths release, every LIVE release, and every REM release also, none fo which were form 2000s, though 3 out of 4 came out with a new cd (or in live's case 2) and smiths frontman, morrissey came out with 4 new cds this year.

You want to base their legacy off of one album that produced one mildly popular single? Use Audioslave, they may not be very good either, but at least they had some hits on their album.

Correction, Audioslave, they've got a bad CD... That was a waste of my money...
Also, unless Velvet Revolver really steps it up, they won't be anything. They arne't very talented, but they have a chance.
Also, you have to really have one hell of a first album to be a classic artist. To be remembered you have to smack em right in the jaw with your first couple albums.

No.......just no......Most of that stuff is only popular because its driven by the media as music. Really most of it is just another fad. Music that will be remebered is the stuff that started certain genres of music (ie. Nirvana = Grunge, The Clash and The Ramones = Punk). And as other posts have said, Velvet Revolver is not a super group it is the remains of members of a supergroup. You want supergroup go back to the 70s and 80s and listen to Van Halen, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith; those are supergroups*.

*Note, yes Twisted Sister is amazing but they are not really rock gods in anyway shape or form, for their day they filled the same position as "Outkast" and other such forms of "music"; to drive the teen/tween population wild.

The 1980s. The reasons:

Sonic Youth, The Minutemen, Dinosaur Jr., Husker Du, The Replacements, The Fall, This Heat, Cocteau Twins, Pixies, R.E.M. (80s material is far better than 90s material), Jesus and Mary Chain, Talk Talk (circa Spirit of Eden and Laughingstock), Mission of Burma, Swans, and more.

Followed by the 90s, then the 70s, then the 60s.

The '90s - Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins, Local H, R.E.M. (their 90s work was better than their 80s work, except for "Automatic For the People" and "Up"), Therapy?, Motörhead's best work, Stabbing Westward, Alice In Chains, Nine Inch Nails...the list goes on.

I voted the 90's, there were so many brilliant bands that there simply wasn't the popularity to go around, and many extremely talented artists stayed in obscurity...

Though the late 60's/very early 70's and late 70's/early 80's were definitely very good times for music.

I can think of three good bands/albums fromt that decade.
1) Peter Gabriel "So"
2) Yes "90120"
3) Red Hot Chili Peppers "Uplift Mofo Party Plan"

How do I sum up the 80's? Mindless pop giving way to mindless hair bands. Nothing musically redeeming about either.

Bands like the Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, the Birthday Party, the Pixies, Faith No More, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, Public Enemy, R.E.M, the Butthole Surfers...and so on, all released (IMO) good albums in the 80's that weren't part of the mainstream, which i do agree was -understatement alert- pretty crap (Some of these bands to varying degrees did become mainstream, but that was generally in the 90's). There was good stuff under the surface during the 80's.
