New numbers show that terrorism is up (3 times higher than just last year) around the world. So much for the war on terror. So much for all the terrorists being drawn to Iraq so that they don't pay attention to the rest of the world. Still defending US foreign policy as the greatest thing since sliced bread? Soldiers are still dying in Iraq - get them out of there before we hit 1600.

U.S. Officials Defend Exclusion of Terrorist Data
by Michele Kelemen

Day to Day, April 28, 2005 ยท The U.S. Department of State and American intelligence officials are trying to fend off criticism of their new methods for counting incidents of international terrorism. For the past several years, the number of incidents of worldwide terrorism had been made part of an annual report -- but after preliminary numbers for this year indicated terrorism has increased three times from the year before, the data was removed.

If you had read that article a little closer, you would have realized that this increase is mostly due to increased conflict between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue. Something that has been going on long before the USA invaded Iraq.

Edit: the story I am referring to isnt the one you just posted a link to. I am referring to a yahoo news story about this that popped up hours ago.

The excluding data part is news to me.

on second reading it does mention the excluded data also.

More than half the attacks reported for 2004 were in South Asia, which recorded 327 incidents that produced 502 deaths. The bulk of the incidents were reported in the divided Kashmir state claimed by both India and Pakistan.

oh ok thanks - yeah that looks like the same story but with more information than I got on the radio. Interesting that they would leave the figures out once the stats show terrorism on the rise. I think I do remember them being critisized about fudging the results from last years count to make it look like the war on terror was being won.
