So how many of you actually want to run for office some day? Does the idea of politics thrill you or chill you?

Yeah, I want to be the governor in general of New Zealand. It will be a dictatorship and everybody will worship me.

City council if anything. And I would have to be much older, whilst taking pottery classes.

I'm actually lining up a possible career in the bureaucracy...hopefully ending with me getting into an undersecretary position, or assistant director or something kinda like that...although that's a best case scenario...

If not politics then perhaps civil service...

On a more serious note though, I would like to be a cabniet minister eventually.

I never plan to run for office. Assuming power, however, does have a certain thrill to it.

For me it is not about assuming power, it is about how I can make the country function better and how I can help the battlers who struggle for survival.

Cool. Good luck.

Thanks, you too. Ever thought about joining the police? You could rise up the ranks and end up chief commissioner like Cathrine Nixon.

My honest to god planned job is president of the united states. That is what I am aiming for. I might take up a spot in congress, or vice presidency(or similar high positions), but president is my goal.

By the way, if I seem radical to many, im not really as radical as I say. Most of it is just prose, or attention getting. I'm actually pretty moderate.

If I could get as high as a Representative, or even a Senator (not freakin likely), then I would be happy as hell. President is far too high up the ladder for me, although I probably wouldn't turn down a cabinet position if I was offered one.

Realistically however, State Senator, or perhaps even a Governorship, would be just fine. :)

I personally could not lead. I am capable of making those decisions, but it's something about me, Whenever I have to do public speaking, I freeze (not going into my wonderous stories) and I when I'm leading, I know what to do, but for some reason I just can't express what it is I want done to the people doing it, so I'm not a leader, unless I'm using someone else as a puppet, then it might work.

I am looking at state legislature first, then on to govenorship, then going national legislature, then someday, if fortune follows me, President...and then..then...the fun begins...time to claim some territory and fund some useless projects...

With the sort of intense scrutiny to which candidates for public office are subjected, I would never make it. Too many "skeletons" in my closet! Heh!

I thought about that...but I figure I'll just own up to anything they dig up on me. It can't help to lie, and it might win me some sympathy votes from people who like that sort of honesty :)

I don't know about that. Up here in Alaska, you get usually get bonus points for being a vet. Then again, we have the largest number of retired vets per capita of all the states.

I think the first thing to do is to get involved in politics early(since you in Sweden rely more on the part you belong to than personal wealth, to become US president you have to get millions of dollars to stand a chance of becoming president) I have thought about becoming active in politics, it will take a few years since I am still getting educated and with my plans my post high school education will take 6 or 7 years. GASP! If anything I would try to get to the parliament, local politics have too few scandals for me.

Since you have to give up your job and rely on being re-elected to your post I guess it will depend where I am standing when I reach the right age.

I am shocked at the number of people interested in politics. I thought no one cared for politics anymore.

well, i would like to get into government, prime minister is ideal, but any ministerial job will do. its the only way to pull our country out of the capitalist drain that the 2 mainstream parties have created.

ps.
i was walking around the city yesterday and saw 7 red stars and 2 hammer+sickles, all of them had revolution written underneath them.
so dont think im alone in wanting to bring new zealand back into the great ages we had in the 1920s where we led the world in socialwelfare.

although until that time comes, i shall join the territorials and get a bit of heavy weapons training(im not gonna bring down the yanks with an assault rifle, i need mortars!!)

I'm really feeling drawn towards entering the U.K. political arena, partly because I'm fairly angry at the way U.K. politics has been heading for the past 20 years or so. We badly need a new style of politics and politicians to restore some of the trust that has been lost.

And if I'm really going for it, then I shouldn't set my sights lower than the top job!

I would seriously consider a city council position if it were not for the fact that I am not a citizen here and can not even vote, let alone stand for election. I have chosen not to change my nationality as this opens many opportunities for my son. (He has dual nationality but would lose this if I changed mine.)

i would kinda like to, but i a) don't think i'm 'worthy' of office, and b) i think i'd suck if i were in office.

besides, my politics are too extreme to get me elected anyway :(
