Creative or Apple: Which one?

I've got a dilemma of sorts. I'm going to buy a 20 GB MP3 player, but the problem is I can't decide whether I should buy the Apple iPod or the Creative Zen Touch. So, anyone who has one or the other can you tell me your opinion on it. Right now the price of a Creative player is $30 less than an iPod so that's swaying me in favor of Creative.

I have an iPod and I love it. Haven't regretted getting it once. It's of great quality and does what it's supposed to really well.

I don't know anything about the one from Creative. $30 Canadian is not that much money...

I always check zdnet and other sites that review technology.

Creative looks like a good buy (http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/Creative_Zen_Touch__20GB_/4505-6490_16-30907933.html?tag=pdtl-list)

Here's iPod (http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/Apple_iPod__20GB__fourth_generation_/4505-6490_16-30978806.html?tag=pdtl-list)

PSP. :D You need a rather expensive memory stick, though. And those are illegal in Canada, as are all forms of recordable media smaller than a toothbrush.

Well, I've never heard of that one, my friend has a PSP with a memory stick...and I have a digital camera, so I guess not. Maybe I'm wrong though ;)

Thanks for the input!

from my experience, creative have the better sound quality of the two (yes i have heard both through the same set of speakers). not suprising when you consider creative have been making top-of-the-range (consumer) pc sound devices for years...

apart from that, they're just mp3 players. if you want 'chic' style (i read 'shite') then pay the extra for an Apple product that actually does nothing better than the alternatives

PSP sucks to start with.

And they cost almost as much as an ipod to start with, and only give you 32MB of memory! And for a 2 gig sony memory stick, you could buy ANOTHER ipod!

I reccoment the ipod, It may be 30 dollars more expensive, but they are REALLY durable. And the Software and internface is better than the creative.

Get an iPod, and get it engraved on the back "world's most expensive pocket mirror".
I had the option of free engraving on mine, always regret not going for it :(

Every argument I've heard, summarized:

iPod Pros- *It's Chic & attractive.
*It has (supposedly) the most user-friendly interface.
*It's almost impossible not to have support for it.
*M4PEGs, what you download from iTunes, are designed specifically so that only iPods are supposed to play them in some attempt to force a technical monopoly.

Everything else pros- *They range from $20 to $150 cheaper for the same storage.
*Most "sound better."
*You'd have to specifically hunt to find something with a worse battery.
*You can (free & legal) download a few thousand programs to convert m4PEG to MP3.

I'd go for a third option (will look up name in the morning) for price concerns, but it's really up to you in the end.

My wife got me an iPod (I'm normally a PC user, but she's got a Mac laptop), and I have to admit, I like it a lot. Took a bit to get use to the thumb rubbing interface, but other than that, its great. I've upped my walks from 20 minutes to an hour. I bet lots of comparable products would be just as good, though. Still, tally one in the "likes his/her ipod" column.

I'd go with the Dell Digital Jukebox over the iPod unless you think you really need all of that extra HD space. Not sure about Creative, though.

I don't have much experience with an Ipod but my brother has a Creative Zen Touch, and its quite nice. The little scroll pad can be buggy occasionally, but other than that I can't see anything wrong with it. Also, it costs ALOT less.
