Agent Smith is the single best bad-guy in movie history,"Mr. Anderson!"
Agent Smith is the single best bad-guy in movie history,"Mr. Anderson!" I'd have to disagree on that one. Some guy in a business suit spouting off nonsense about "humans being a disease" isn't really a mark of great villandom in my book. And he just got stupidly comical by the third movie.

Why do ppl always pick on my posts? I've noticed this.
Anyway, he was brilliant in the first Matrix, and the second, although the film and tht scene were a bit crap, i still liked him. Everyone's allowed an opnion

I agree. Agent Smith was a great villain. He's one of the best villains in recent memory.
Why do people only ever talk about new movies? :(
There's over a century of film history to draw on and for some reason we're restricted to the last fifteen years.
The best villan in RECENT history, imho, would have to be:
Asami - Audition
perhaps coming at a draw with Kakihara in "Koroshiya 1"
Snake Eaters

Um, because the majority of the ppl on here are teenagers/early twenties? Thats not really an excuse, but not everybody is able to spend their time watching films, much as they like to.

Tim Roth in Rob Roy

I liked Colin Ferral as Bullseye in Daredevil...
But he's not one of the greatest... he's just an interesting character. Quote from my mom:
"That's how a Sabbot character would act. Plus he's got cool [background] music!"

Gene Hackman in Unforgiven and DeNiro in Cape Fear were awesome also.
I also liked Micky and Malory Knox(sp?) from Natural Born Killers
and
The blonde boy from Identity. If you haven't seen Identity go see it.
How could I forget Norman Bates. One of the best movie twists ever.
I forgot Michael Corleone too, that guy was such an asshole.
No he wasn't. Michael Corleone was more of a protagonist by the end of the movie anyways. The real villians were Barzini and the Turk.

Robert Deniro in Angel Heart as the devil
Viggo Mortensen in The Prophecy as the devil

I also liked Keifer Sutherland in Phone Booth. That was an awesome movie.
I forgot about Keifer...he was good in that movie....But whenever i hear him speak now, i think of him as the Doctor in Dark City
Oh and how can you not add Christopher Walken....[Enter most any of his movies here]?

Christopher Walken has always been a bit eccentric for me. I can't think of any villains he's played that have captured my interest.
He does have that natural evil guy look though, which is awesome.
I liked him in Suicide Kings - how he manipulated his captors. He was okay in Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead. I think it's his voice that does it for me
1.The Borg
2. Khan
3.The Predator
4. The Joker
5.Darkseid
6.Dr. Otto Octavious
7.Deacon Frost
8.Shinzon Of Remus

Hannibal Lector - 'Nuff said
The villian in Unbreakable. I'm not revealing his name because I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it.
The villian from the Cowboy Bebop movie, Knocking on Heaven's Door. I can't think for the life of me what his name is.
The General from the orginal The Inlaws. He's a great character.
Jack Nicholson as the Joker in the first Batman movie.
Maleficent, from Sleeping Beauty.
And though he's not really a villain given the story of the movie, Il Duce from Boondock Saints is definitely pretty cool.

Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth in Blue Velvet
Max Von Sydow as Emperor Ming (Ming the Merciless) in Flash Gordon
Bette Davis as Baby Jane Hudson in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane
Lionel Barrymore as Mr. Potter in It's a Wonderful Life

John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson in "Pulp Fiction" should be in the list - Assasins who debate the french name for "Big Macs" How cool was that?
Saint Curie
28-04-2005, 06:28
Does the villain at the end of "Identity" count? (don't want to spoil it) I thought that one was cool

There is no more of an ubervillian in film history than Darth Vader. C'mon, who else has that much menace, style, and panache? From the subtle "I find your lack of faith disturbing." to ripping crap out of the walls and throwing it at you while dueling, to crushing your neck with his bare hands, the guy could not just mess a fool up, but he could do it with class, too.
As a side note, however, I would have to say that the best villian in recent history was Jules Winfield in Pulp Fiction. "Oh, I'm sorry! Did I break your concentration?" Nuff said.

Angel Eyes from 'the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly'
A lot of my choices were already listed...including
Jack Nicholson - The Joker - "Batman"
Anthony Hopkins - Hannibal Lecter - "The Silence of the Lambs"
Jason Issacs - British General Whatshisname - "The Patriot"
Jeremy Irons - Scar - "The Lion King"
Al Pacino - Satan - "The Devil's Advocate"
Alan Rickman - Hans Gruber - "Die Hard"
I'll throw in Gary Oldman in both "Bram Stokers: Dracula" and "The Fifth Element". The movies weren't the greatest, but he did very well in both roles.
But the BEST villain of all time was Frank Langella as Skeletor in "Masters of the Universe"!

Most of these are repated ones but you can't argue with the classics.
Obviously Dath Vader rules.
Gary Oldman in The Professional [Leon], if you haven't seen it, do it now! When he screams 'EVERYONE' at the SWAT guy.....man, sends shivers down the spine.
Jack Nicholson - Few Good Men. Awesome performance.
Tetsuo - Akira
Scar - Lion King [I killed Mufasa!]
The Mob Guy in Boondock Saints [You insignificunt!!] [Il Duce was cool too but he turned good [face :)] after about 5 minutes. Still cool but not a villian, shit that's an awesome movie.
...but the winner is.....
Castor FUCKING Troy from Face/Off! [Played by two different guys! Cage/Travolta]
Bennett from Commando. hahahahaha! hilarious :D :D :D :D :D :D
Hmm, I'd have to go with:
General Jack D. Ripper, Dr. Strangelove OHILTSWALTB
The previously mentioned Jack Nicholson as the Joker, Batman
Inou Rei as Yamamura Sadako, Ringu
But yeah, number one is Darth Vader. Even after all these years he still causes an quickly indrawn breath when he walks aboard that blockade runner.

Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)
