Though, as people have already said, it was the day that North Vietnamese troops occupy Saigon, ending the Vietnam war.

And more interestingly, it was also the day that the 1939 World Fair opened.

Edit. Damn, I type to slow. I'm here updating this, and he puts the answer below, bugger. Well, at least my update was right *shrugs*.

Technically April 30, 1975 was the fall of Saigon, but most view that as the end of the Vietnam War (or the American War, if you're Vietnamese) so I'll give it to you.
