propoganda aimed directly against the people of a country rather than the reigime or what it stands for seems wrong to me in some way i can't put my finger on. i'm glad we have more sense now...

Isn't it curious that the propoganda still evokes the same anti-Nazi feelings half a century later... but nobody cares that Pope Benedict was in the Hitler Youth?

I doubt he was given the option. I heard he deserted from the German army later on.

Well, he also crewed an Anti-Aircraft gun, I believe...

But, my point was - the art of Nazism actually carries more stigma than the fact that someone served the Nazi regime.

wasn't he only like 16/17 when the war ended? he couldn't have served in the German army under the Nazis (unless you could join the army when you were 16 over there which i don't actually know)

By the end of the war old men and boys were given guns and told to go shoot the invaders.

personally, i think your point is moot, at least in this thread. no one mentioned the pope until you got here. perhaps that was the problem, eh? whenever we see a swastika, we should start shouting "fucking nazi pope" and the like? meh. i don't like the pope because he's a hardliner. the fact that he used to operate an antiaircraft piece in Dachau really has no immediate bearing on that. besides which, the picture in question is american in origin, unless i missed something.

Goebbels had a withering disease, I can't remember its name, but it gave him a guant face, and destroyed his foot so he limped.

Even so... it's a terrible link... it sounds like it's trying to be a pun... but there's no play on words at all.

oh right... well it looks there like a charicature of his head has been superimposed on top of the old-style mickey mouses body, and given a swastika tail... that's probably the only reason he has a tail.

I have no idea why he has a mickeymouse body though.

Semiotics Keruvalia?

I guess with dad we have our tough, hard man with a scrowl on his face and his arms crossed to make a barrier between you and him. The apron, suggesting butchery provides another barrier, but because it stops short it gives the optical illusion that he is taller by contrasting the materials and because in proportion to his body he has long legs making him tall and imposing. His short hair looks like a military cut.

Like her husband, the mother is a stern looking old woman who is not slight either. She also crosses her arms in front of her making a barrier. Her hair is set up in a tight and ordered way. While her legs are long, she is shorter than her husband because he is more important, so women are affected too. Her glasses serve to accentuate her scrowl.

The son probably has the closest to natural body proportions of the whole family. He stands tall and proud with his crotch sticking out in a symbol of masculinity. He is the only one wearing a uniform, it connotates that even the children are indoctrinated young and if we loose your children will be indoctrinated to the enemy too. His arms are also crossed to form a barrier. This is reinforced by the Hitler mostash (Sp?).

The daughter is looking down her nose at you. As you read the image left to right (we tend to look at things from left to right because we read words in that order) you start off with big nasty daddy and end up with some snotty girl looking down at you. It would have been quite easy to have the family lined up from tallest to shortest, but they did it this way for a reason. An attempt to motivate people against the Nazis by making them feel like the Nazis looked down upon them. Like the others her arms are crossed to give her a more aloof look.

They are all lit from above, like something holy to give them a sense of power to strike fear into the hearts of onlookers. They all have black shoes and Swartzstickers (Sp?) to show despite their diffrences they are uniform. The only one that is slightly out of the uniformity is the son who's swartzsticker is on his sleeve rather than this chest. This signifies that even those not in uniform are with the Nazis.

Well that was a fun little exercize! :)

Curious response...

A thread based around Nazi-related propoganda... and you think it is irrelevent for someone to make comments about how that propoganda has a better shelf-life than the stigma attached to Nazism itself?

The new pope was the obvious choice, because his journals mention World War II experiences in Nazi Germany, including serving in the Hitler Youth... because he is a 'current' news item'... and because there is NO BIG FUSS about the fact that he served the Nazi regime - which is kind of the whole point I was making.

Mmkay .... folks .... just to clear this up ....

This is not Nazi propoganda, it's anti-Nazi propoganda in a Texaco advertisement from the 1940s.

The pic of the family I simply find hilarious. I mean ... Sullen Hun Dad, Frau Glum, Adolf Jr. and his haughty little bitch-sis Eva. Gotta love it.

However, what I was pointing out was the astounding last line of the ad copy.

"When the armistice comes, it won't be asked for in English!"
For those of you who need an education in propoganda, an "armistice" is a truce and the language it would be asked [begged] for in would be German.

That's just brilliant!

The thing is that even though his body is dead, his idea lives on, which is what is speaking to you. You can kill a body, but you can't quite kill an idea. Heaven knows I tried.
