Okay, I'm really excited about the upcoming Star Wars Episode III. From what I've seen so far (an funny enough - NO more pictures of Darth Vader yet except for "rise..."!)

Found this on http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/palpatine/index.html
and by reading that it hit me: I've heard that story before... Waddaya think?

Names modified:

The indications of his future regime were subtle at first. Bush's term as President ended during the rise of the Terrorists, but that crisis allowed him to extend his stay in office. Once the War on Terror erupted, the Senate's inability to efficiently wage war on scattered fronts forced him to enact executive decree after executive decree. He added amendments to the constitution funneling more power to him, effectively circumventing the bureaucracy of the Senate.
The public and the Senate willingly gave up their rights and freedoms in the name of security. Under Bush's guidance, the war would be won, and the Republic would be safe. The monstrous specter of the enemy leading an assault ensured that few questioned Bush's growing authority.

So the US Senate has been effectively de-balled? Interesting. Wrong, but interesting. The uproar over the filibuster and cloture is a recent example.

The entire analogy is specious.

The Senate is just codename for the UN. And Palpatine is subbed for Kofi Annan.
So in a time of crisis, Palpatine (Annan) siezes control of the Senate (UN), thus turning the Republic into a tyrannical empire (IE New World Order-style dictatorship).

Kofi Annan as Lord Specious and as his sidekick Lord Darth Walker?

I don't think so. The W will get shrinkly and hurl blue lightning eventually, thus solving the energy crisis and binding him to his throne forever. Kofi is more like Samuel on the Jedi U.N. - a good man in a position without much power...

On the other hand, his second in command is a wholly corrupt cyborg of prodigous mental powers who's body has become so consumed by the evil within it that his life can be sustained only by electronic implants.
