Willy Wonka

Okay - Perhaps a somewhat less than serious question:

I have seen a trailer for the new "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" movie, with Johnny Depp as Mr. Wonka... and it has made me think about the original version, and the original book.

Assuming that anyone here has read the book, or seen the film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory"... you may remember the character of Violet Beauregard, who eats the gum, and is turned into a huge blueberry.

She is then rolled away by the Oompah-Loompahs, to be 'juiced'.

My question is... how do other people imagine the juicing process?

Popped like a berry in a press? Juice leaking out through mucus membranes? Sweating juice?

I always found it kind of disturbing... I'm wondering how they'll approach the matter in the Depp version.

They'll probably exclude it so as not to offend certain religious or ethnic groups.

thank you for starting up my sick and twisted imagination...

there might be several different methods they can use...

1) a form of Liposuction...
2) squeezing... wrap her in a double layer body suit and slowly fill the space between layers with Air.
3) sucking it out of her pores...
4) sucking it out of her 'other' orfices.

I managed to convince myself, as a child, that it oozed out through her pores... although I am less certain as I have aged... especially since I have read some of Roald Dahl's less appetising works.

So, which of those lovely images did you / do you think most likely?

I always imagined it as her being put through a sort of cartoonish press a la Loony Tunes, and coming out the other end flat.

:) But where did the juice come out?

As a child, I suspect, you just accept things... then, when you're a bit older and you look back on it, and really question it....

I envision they will sink their teeth into her and suck out all the juice, then spit it into a pitcher or something......

Hey. I'm glad it's not another Religion/political/Lifestyle thread.

Nice topic btw... :D

Need more fun threads... perhaps a debate on the most feasable way on getting the juice out???

I always saw it as her being placed under a very large press, with the result being pretty much what you get when you squeeze a grape. Her skin would tear and juice would come flowing out of that. A few stitches later, she's right as rain.

It is, after all, a children's tale.

It's not that often you get to use "Her skin would tear and juice would come flowing out..." and "children's tale" in the same thought...

It's perfectly natural, when you think about it. Have you ever read the original Brothers Grimm tales? Grim is a good description. Then think of all the nursery rhymes and fairy tales... Hansel and Gretel shoving a witch into a fire, Jack splitting his head open on the downhill return from the well, etc. Classic children's material is disturbingly violent.

And yet, everything turns out all right in the end. Weird. No wonder kids have nightmares, and are scared of the dark.

Hmmm, lets see..

Augustus Gloop, fell into a chocolate lake, only to be sucked up a tube and hopefully fished out before hes made into Wonka bars.

The afore mentioned Violette Beaureguard, blown up like a berry, only to be 'juiced' in whatever twisted fashion you find fit.

The oh so desireable Veruca Salt  who is fittingly deposited into the furnace room, maybe its on, maybe its off.

And Mike Tevee, broken down in tiny tiny bits to be sent ala Star Trek to over there, reassembled in 1/64th scale, and then sent to the taffy room for a resizing.

Don't forget our heroes Charlie Bucket and Grampa Joe, nearly shredded by their desire to fly, they should be glad mamma never told 'em that was rude.

Slugworth? A trip through the roof in a glass box that didn't seem to have a way to land? Oompa Loompas?!

Is it any suprise Gene Wilder still says that Willy Wonka is the darkest character he has ever portrayed, and he played Dr. Frankenstien!

Actually - I am a huge fan of early fairy tales... dating back to even before the Grimm or Anderson approaches to the matter...

The original versions, where Red Riding Hood ate grandma, and drank her blood, before hopping into bed with the wolf... or Snow White forcing her step-mother to dance in red-hot iron shoes at the wedding, or Cinderella's sisters chopping pieces off of their feet to fit the fur slipper...

I always thought she got popped. But I'm also a sick bastard at times...

also, interesting little fact about the Grimm stories...They were collected because the Grimm brothers were linguists, and used them as a study of European language...I just found that amusing.

Press her into a little girl mold, and let the juices run wherever they come from?

The image was a bit like a mangle for wringing excess water out of laundry:

So the juice was just wrung out - through the pores I guess.

To my mind, just having Johnny Depp in it is enough to keep it on the radar...

I guess that is some kind of evidence that we really do start out innocent, and become tainted and distorted with age, then. :)
