Ouch. Everything hurts.
This weekend me and my housemates participated in the Batavieren Race: A relay race from Nijmegen to Enschede, about 185 km (115 miles). I was in the morning group so we had to wake up at 4 am on saturday. At 4:30 the minivan arrived and we all loaded up our stuff. Of course it wouldn't be complete if we didn't take a wrong turn, so we ended up driving waaay too fast over the Dutch highways, but it was night so no one was on them anyway. We arrived with 5 minutes to spare. We dropped off the first runner and drove to where the next runner would start....
At about 9:30 am it was my turn. I had to run 8 km (5 miles). I trained 2 times and on both occasions I had to stop after 2. So I was afraid I wouldn't make it, but I couldn't let the group down. I had to finish it, as fast as I could. So I just concentrated on getting a steady rithm. I turned out that a quarter of my distance was over sandpaths. I didn't know that. But I had to go on. After 2 km my foot began to hurt (I sprained my ankle a couple of weeks ago, so I had it packed tightly), after 3 my calves began to hurt (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/9386/dsc006533bl.jpg), at 4 my sides and at 6 my knees (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/9505/dsc006555kf.jpg). but I had to go on. I couldn't let the team down. You can probably imagine how glad I was when I finaly saw my finish. I could even pull out a sprint for the last 50 metres.
I hurt all over (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/6883/dsc006566gh.jpg), but we had to keep going. So I sat in the van, popped a beer and enjoyed it so much (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/5515/dsc006721ct.jpg). At the next stop I had to get out and I nearly fell on the street because my knees gave out. That was the moment my body hurt most.
When our group finished and the midday group took over we went to take a shower and then back to meet the night group, who hadn't gotten any sleep. We lazed around in the sun with a couple of beers and around 5 pm we went to see the finish and meet up with the rest of the midday group. There was much rejoicing. And beer too.
At dinner we got some kind of mystery meat (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/7563/dsc007805kf.jpg). Most of us were suddenly vegetarians.
After dinner we lazed around a bit with some more beer and after that there was a huuuge party. There were about 8000 participants. Anyway. I was really tired so I wanted to laze around a bit more. When I got up to join them I couldn't find them anywhere. So I partyed a bit with myself, but I got bored at 1 am so I went to sleep.
Ther rest came back at 4:30 am and I was still awake, because it was fucking freezing. We had a few beers and then most of them went to bed. 2 were still in a party/mischief mood, so I joined them. We messed up a couple of tents. After that, 'till 6 am on sunday, we pogoed to Battery and Bro Hymn. At six the music stopped and we went back to our tents. The 2 guys I was with suddenly started play fighting. Well actually there was one that wanted to fight (a little guy) and one (huuuuge guy) who just punched three times and the little guy gave up. We went to bed at 7 am.
Woke up again at 9:30 (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/9986/dsc008215nh.jpg) for breakfast. We were back at 2 pm and I had to rush home for rehearsals at 4 pm (which I didn't make)(I was sooo tired, I didn't play anything right).
I did a little partying again last night and I finally collapsed at 11:30 pm.
I had a great weekend. What about yours.
