My crazy weekend

Ouch. Everything hurts.

This weekend me and my housemates participated in the Batavieren Race: A relay race from Nijmegen to Enschede, about 185 km (115 miles). I was in the morning group so we had to wake up at 4 am on saturday. At 4:30 the minivan arrived and we all loaded up our stuff. Of course it wouldn't be complete if we didn't take a wrong turn, so we ended up driving waaay too fast over the Dutch highways, but it was night so no one was on them anyway. We arrived with 5 minutes to spare. We dropped off the first runner and drove to where the next runner would start....

At about 9:30 am it was my turn. I had to run 8 km (5 miles). I trained 2 times and on both occasions I had to stop after 2. So I was afraid I wouldn't make it, but I couldn't let the group down. I had to finish it, as fast as I could. So I just concentrated on getting a steady rithm. I turned out that a quarter of my distance was over sandpaths. I didn't know that. But I had to go on. After 2 km my foot began to hurt (I sprained my ankle a couple of weeks ago, so I had it packed tightly), after 3 my calves began to hurt (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/9386/dsc006533bl.jpg), at 4 my sides and at 6 my knees (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/9505/dsc006555kf.jpg). but I had to go on. I couldn't let the team down. You can probably imagine how glad I was when I finaly saw my finish. I could even pull out a sprint for the last 50 metres.

I hurt all over (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/6883/dsc006566gh.jpg), but we had to keep going. So I sat in the van, popped a beer and enjoyed it so much (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/5515/dsc006721ct.jpg). At the next stop I had to get out and I nearly fell on the street because my knees gave out. That was the moment my body hurt most.

When our group finished and the midday group took over we went to take a shower and then back to meet the night group, who hadn't gotten any sleep. We lazed around in the sun with a couple of beers and around 5 pm we went to see the finish and meet up with the rest of the midday group. There was much rejoicing. And beer too.

At dinner we got some kind of mystery meat (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/7563/dsc007805kf.jpg). Most of us were suddenly vegetarians.

After dinner we lazed around a bit with some more beer and after that there was a huuuge party. There were about 8000 participants. Anyway. I was really tired so I wanted to laze around a bit more. When I got up to join them I couldn't find them anywhere. So I partyed a bit with myself, but I got bored at 1 am so I went to sleep.

Ther rest came back at 4:30 am and I was still awake, because it was fucking freezing. We had a few beers and then most of them went to bed. 2 were still in a party/mischief mood, so I joined them. We messed up a couple of tents. After that, 'till 6 am on sunday, we pogoed to Battery and Bro Hymn. At six the music stopped and we went back to our tents. The 2 guys I was with suddenly started play fighting. Well actually there was one that wanted to fight (a little guy) and one (huuuuge guy) who just punched three times and the little guy gave up. We went to bed at 7 am.

Woke up again at 9:30 (http://img254.echo.cx/img254/9986/dsc008215nh.jpg) for breakfast. We were back at 2 pm and I had to rush home for rehearsals at 4 pm (which I didn't make)(I was sooo tired, I didn't play anything right).

I did a little partying again last night and I finally collapsed at 11:30 pm.

I had a great weekend. What about yours.

My weekend was boring actually. I'm a college student so finals are in a few weeks and I'm studying like crazy. Besides homework, I had fun chatting up on the nationstates message board. We talk about star wars, and matrix (blue pill or red pill) and other philosophical stuff. The only thing about my region is that I seem to be the only one who don't have anyone I know personally there. Everyone else there seems to live together or live in the close vicinity. I know one of the them lives at the dorm and lately, he's been making snipe comments at me for some reason. Anyway, that's about it. I'm glad summer is almost here.

I told you not to sprain anything! Sorry babe.....

My weekend was......eventful. My best friend got married Saturday in a small tiny town about 20 miles from where we live. Now I am not exagerating....this is the kind of small town that has one redlight. One. They had one hotel so I got us a room so I could help decorate the chapel Friday night. The hotel that we stayed at gave us a can of Lysol upon check in. No, not really, but they SHOULD HAVE. It was awful. I felt dirtier after taking a shower than I did before I got in. We made the best of it and then about 1a.m. Friday night....the caca hit the fan.
Apparently 6 young people rented the room beside us and proceeded to get smashed. I hear yelling and screaming at 1 am. F this and F that .....on and on and on. Now my 10 month old and my 6 year old were sleeping. So I lay there and get angrier and angrier.......and then I heard the sound of glass breaking. I thought it might have been a beer bottle. So after a while -they must have passed out.........silence. BTW- it was a mom and pop hotel and calling the front desk did no good, no one answered.
So I get up Saturday and open the door and there beside my brand new minivan that I just bought, was a traile of vomit and broken glass. I was so afraid my van was hurt. Lucky for them it wasnt. The owner walked past me and beat on their door and they all started yelling, they got kicked out ......one of them had tthrown something through the window the night before and the owner was pissed. So I shut the door and said "everyone get your ass up and get ready-we are leaving this hell hole." Well I made the mistake of letting Mr Peechland pack his own clothing......so he brought a black belt and brown shoes and picked up a pair of my Khaki's instead of his. sSooooo....I go out at 10am looking for a place that sells clothes. In a po-dunk town with one red light.

but the wedding was lovely....

I did fk all on the weekend, although I did briefly attend a party on sunday night. By the time I got there, there were all of 7 people there, at least 3 had passed out all ready and I was already tired and wanted to go home to bed. I stayed for a while, had a few beers, had an interesting chat to a guy who spent a few months in a high-medium security prison (with various murderers and rapists and other friendly chaps) after a judge decided to make an example of him under recently passed hacking laws. The entire weekend was fking cold too.

Mine was pretty low-key. Saturday morning, did nothing. Afternoon went to training (Dragonboats), evening taught a couple of classes then went home and did sod-all. Sunday morning went rowing in Sha Tin, Afternoon popped over to Chai Wan and competed in a few Dragonboat races (not just me of course, the crew I train with). Won all of the races, which was a bonus (especially as it means the coach won't be too hard on us tomorrow at training!). Free beer and food put on after the race - excellent! (btw S.Korean beer is crap. Looks and tastes like Lion Red to you kiwis out there. They had SKol as well luckily). Sunday evening came home and crashed out at 8.
So pretty non-eventful really. Next week will be the same. It's coming into the Dragonboat season. June's when the big races will be held.

Kewl! Now that's my idea of a great time! I use to run ten miles every other day. Got to where I was addicted to it and absolutely hated it when I could no longer run like that because of my parachuting accident.

You GO, Dude! [ applauds ]
