Holy crap the minute I clicked the link, you changed the title!

What do you think people can do to improve the government?
What people can do? Call much more loudly for politicians to cut down spending, namely in subsidies and other porkbarrel places. Also call for politicians to get rid of a number of federal agencies and give their state counterparts more control in local affairs.

Meow... make it insanely cautious, conservative, skeptical, democratic, and generally ineffective. Just make sure that inability to keep up with beauracracy has no real consequences.

Require that every polition who proposes/votes for increased govt/mandated spending gets either punched in the face or their ear bitten by Mike Tyson.

Offer any politician who proposes/votes for decreased govt/mandated spending gets a lollipop.

This way they will spend only on the important stuff but not cut spending rashly.

By mandated I mean things they Require citizens to spend money/time on.

For example, politicians that mandate that we spend money to improve our property to some nebulious standard better believe it is important enough to get punched in the face, otherwise let us decide.

Get their learn on, and then get themselves involved with politics.

Until that happens, it's business as usual, and business as usual is only good for the people giving you the business.

I assume there was an old title I didn't see.

Do you mean what individuals like us should do, or how the government should be changed?

I have no idea about the former, but in reference to the latter I think the government should consist of computers programmed to do Rawl's veil of ignorance constantly.

The old title was 'Jesus, now more than ever'.

Either one, it doesn't matter.

Shrink it down to microscopic proportions, de-centralize it, and give more power to states and local governments.

Hate to day it, but feudalism doesn't make for much of a nation.

There are too many decisions made on a national level, but many have to be. I don't think there is any one answer that fits every situation.

Federalism is the answer, not feudalism.

Implement hybrid systems and dissolve mono systems. Make cronyism and corruption punishable by exile. Make career politics impossible. Outlaw lobbying. Make all sectors of government non profit. Put a strict cap on campaign contributions. Allow states to secede if they wish. Decentralize power. Provide excellent social and health care for those who wish to pay into it. Allow those who aren't interested to keep their money and find their own health care. Allow citizens to "drop out" of society if they wish by returning their SSI numbers and taking themselves out of the system. Allow citizens to homestead unused government land and live there rent free if they choose to maintain habitation in those types of places. Keep government out of people's private lives.

Government in general should only exist to facilitate easy living among the citizens. It should never interfere in their lives with needless, unnecessary and intrusive laws. All laws should be based solely on the basis of utmost necessity. Government should be a force that dwells in the background of societal life and only comes to the foreground in times of emergency.

CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM!

As long as politicians are chosen by whatever special interest has the most money to blow on funding a candidate, the government does not reflect the will of the people.

Weaken political parties.

Implement some loose restrictions on how much the party comittee can give to an individual candidate. Not having to toe the party line to secure funding will make for 535 independent voices in the US Congress instead of 2. That can't hurt.

Reform the media

Change the way the media interacts with politics so that it is possible to get elected without spending millions on advertisements. Require more televised speeches, debates, and discussions BY THE CANDIDATES.

Politicians who do not perform properly should be executed. That should motivate them to try and do better.

I do not disagree with you, but in the US the apathy is terrible. I am tired of people complaining about this politician or that one, until I find out they have not even registered to vote, then I usually lamblast them verbally and walk away. (A slight exaggeration I guess), but if voting would increase in certain quarters like the lower class, then politicians would be less likely to only campaign in certain areas, like the middle class. I know that politicians count on low voter turn out to get their way...maybe I'm not explaining myself well but it's what I feel.

I understand, but many people simply don't vote because of so few choices.

True. I am frustrated also with the fact that you have to be a millionaire to run for office or you don't stand a chance.(campaign reform) But also that it is getting harder to tell one politician from another and where they stand despite their party affiliation. The Democrats are failing because (my opinion)they are unwilling to make a solid stand on definite issues and stick by them. I think Kerry lost in part because he was too wishy-washy on the issues being presented at the time. I also believe the Democratic Party itself has allienated the people it professes to represent and fail to fully understand what the people want. I also think the Republicans are also beginning to allienate their party faithful for some of the same reasons.

the government we live in or government in general?
for in general i'll say this:
government could take controll of all buisiness and have everyone work for the government. ban anything privatized, and get rid of money. they should have mandatory service in the military and bring higher punishments, such as death penalty and life torture. anything unnatural should be banned, allong with anything that would slow the progress or efeciency of the country. schools should teach children why these policies are necisary and morally right. most religions, majorly christianity, should be banned and followers tortured. all issues should be voted on by the population and the population size should be limited. the democracy should not be limited except that laws past must only make things all one way or all another, no allowing one person to do one thing and the next person to do the next thing. everything united. just as the flag of the country i live in means, progress comes from the unity of individuals and violence is important on getting there.
