Want to be POTUS?

I've been talking it up for awhile, well I've finally done it. I've begun constructing an RP site based on US politics. It's set in 1999, towards the end of The Clinton Era.

All members start off as Congressman, however will have to defend their seats, bargain and deal with Admin asigned issues as well as a healthy dose of player mud-slinging and debate.

It's all good clean, corrupt dirty politcs.

This is the link: Click (http://s10.invisionfree.com/Pennsylvania_Avenue/index.php?act=idx)

The site is still partially under construction so I'm looking for advice and will begin looking for an admin team in the not-to-distant future.

I'll be purchasing the domain name and contructing a main site later on (ie when I get paid). But advice is still really welcome.

This sounds so awesome. Probably because this past year I started watching West Wing. And then about a year or two years ago now, I started getting into politics.

We sound like the mid-nineties Republicans when liberals speak. "How I long for the Clinton Era" ;)

I have to admit, that's what inspired me to start this forum.

This is certainly interesting.

1: Can you please give us more details about the uh... How to say...? Functionings/mechanics of the game?

2: Can you please explain to those that don't understand how the American Political System works (or just plain aren't American, like me)... What a member of Congress does, the responsibilities, how they get voted into office, under what circumstances etc.

And yes, I am interested in signing up.

Awesome. Although there are times in the show where I question what the hell the writers are thinking. I mean McGarry for VP, what the hell? Come on, that makes it look even more like Santos is gonna win. Ah hell, what are you going to do...

I'm sorry! Have you seen a doctor yet??

Haha, no.

Well Santos choosed McGarry because he was a Secretary of Labor and the White House Chief of Staff until his heart attack and he is well respected in Washington

The game will basically run as follows:

New members enter as either already elected Congressmen or may challenge an excisting member for their seat. (The later option is not available yet)

Each week the Admin Team will create one major issue for each Party to address. As well as creating a number of smaller day-to-day problems.

Every GMT Saturday the actions of all members will be gathered as a news report and presented to my sample group who will give an opinion on a scale of 1-5. This will form the week's polls.

The suggested goal for the game is to push your candidate's agenda and hopefully keep your seat. However, you're free to be as moral or courrpt as you so choose.

---------

I will be choicing from excisiting members a government tommorow and leaving those daring few Republicans to begin forming their own opposition before the "2000 elections".

Yeah I know. He is a good choice to balance the ticket and everything, although him having a recent near fatal heart attack seems like it would be a big weakness. Anyway, I just think it's bad writing as it can be seen as them already making up their minds for Santos to win, because he has two the the main cast memebers in his campaign now.

Although as I was typing this I though about the heart attack issue, and thought that maybe that's what they were thinking of. That that issue could be what makes them lose.

Well any way it plays out it will be interesting. This election could make or break the show.

So, do we make up our own characters? Or are we stuck picking real Congressmen?

That I think is the main flaw in starting in the 2000 timeline, instead of doing something like West Wing does. But as long as it's well written adn produced it could overcome such a flaw.

I'll be looking to start full-blown Role Play within the next few weeks. However, to test the game's capabilities I will be creating an issue and a bill tonight.

Where do you stand on "the issues?". If you're more conservative, family first kind of guy pick a mid-western state, if you sit to the left head up north perticually New York, New Jersy. If you are from the more extreme right head far down South, ie Texas, Florida.

Hmm, what's some moderate or maybe left-leaning states? Not like far-left, but sorta left-leaning. Anywhere between liberal and moderate, but not far-left liberal.

Really? Wow, I thought they'd be further left because of being in the northeast. And I dunno, if I want to go with Mass... *thinks of Alan Shore nd Denie Crane of Boston Legal and the Practice* I'll take it!

Hmm, I think I'll use my old character Alfonzo V. Bluesummers...

I'm not sure either. Overall is Conservative (ie if it ain't broke don't fix it), but isn't afraid of taking out petri dishes to start off new experiments to improve the system.

If the latter doesn't make sense, just think of my character as being totally Conservative, but not no-change.

Are third parties ok? If so, what are the implications?
can we get party forums like the Republicans and Democrats already have?
