Okay, so I'm playing Halo: Combat Evolved on my computer, I bought it quite a while ago so I could keep up with my addiction even while away from my X-Box, and I'm playing through the campaign from the beginning. I might have had the game for the computer for quite a while but I've mainly been playing multi-player, which has more vehicles, weaponry, maps, and play options than the Box version, so this is my first time really going through the computer campaign start to finish. Now, the Box and PC versions of the campaign are nearly identical. We're talking miniscule changes that really aren't worth mentioning. The Sniper Rifle in the PC version has a max zoom of 8x instead of 10x, but if you didn't see the little label saying "8x" you'd never even know. There are additional lines of dialogue said by the Marines, a few more cuses here and there, and in The Truth and Reconciliation mission there's a spot where you get Marine reinforcements. We have now reached the end of the differences between the PC and Box versions. Anyway, I get to 343 Guilt Spark, the turning point of the game, and am being swarmed by the Flood (God how I hate those things) when I pick up a Shotgun and baam!, the Flood start falling like wheat before a reaper.
Well, I'm now rampaging across the level, just blasting anything I come across, when suddenly I get an urge. I'm sure all my Halo bretheren have had this same urge at least once in their life, and it's pretty hard to resist. I get the urge to drop the mouse, stand up, and yell at the top of my lungs "Boomstick, baby!" Fortunately, since my roommate is two feet away to my right and playing Halo2 on Live, I managed to fight the urge and keep my mouth shut, but I had to fight hard. I tell you, that urge stuck with me the entire rest of the game and I just wanted it to go away, but it did get me thinking. Who else has had a Boomstick moment?
For those who have no clue what I'm talking about, what I refer to when I say a "Boomstick moment" is when you are in a situation, either in real life or in a video game, that strongly mimics a scene from a movie/book/video game/etc. and you want to say or do something from that movie/book/video game, etc. You want to say a line from that particular scene, you want to mimic the characters movements, or anything else along those lines. My particular Boomstick moment, where I even get the name for it, comes from the Evil Dead series, as I'm sure you all know.
So, what moments have you had?
