Happy Earth Day!

Today, April 22nd, is Earth Day!
Created in the United States in 1970, Earth Day is the day when we all should take a moment to pause, and think about the nature of Nature. We should remember the verdant, resplendent forests, and the rolling green plains, and the bountiful, fecund oceans. We should wonder at the grace and awe of the high and mighty mountains, and awe at the noble depths of the dark, cold ocean deeps. We should think of the animals, the plants, the trees, the rivers, the land and the sky. We should rejoice in the glories of Earth's biodiversity and the complexity of the ecosystems.
In a time when so many atrocities are committed against the earth in the name of wealth, it is important to never forget that humans are just another part of the ecosystem, no matter how much we try to distance ourselves from it.
Let Earth Day be your beginning.
Let Earth be the end.
You can walk the distance. I know you can.
Sincerely,
Freebs

I nearly forgot about Earth Day this year, until I saw an ad in the subway for the Earth Day fair at Grand Central Terminal.
How do you bold the thread title?
Thread titles are in bold only if new posts have been added since your last visit to the forums or your last visit to the thread. This is reader-specific and cannot be controlled by the thread poster or the Moderators.

well i never heard of 'Earth Day' (guess we don't have it here in the UK), but it sounds like a good idea to me.
In a time when so many atrocities are committed against the earth in the name of wealth, it is important to never forget that humans are just another part of the ecosystem, no matter how much we try to distance ourselves from it.
“The first man who, having enclosed a piece of ground, bethought himself of saying This is mine, and found people simple enough to believe him, was the real founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars, and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows: Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody”

Not too happy for my neighbor , he loves this holiday being the hippie he is , he went out today for some earth day party , this guy has a huge garden and lots of pets , so today for earth day i decided to ravage his garden , dig up the earth and spread salt all over it , i pissed on his tree and hung three of his cats on it ( he has 5 ) i sprayed 12 aerosol cans in his back yard ,i then hurried up into his house , pillaged it in a party like fashion while throwing his drugs all over the place , i then left with my plunder of fur coats ( his former pets ) and then took my 50. cal for a test on 4 other trees in his yard but not for too long , after that i went home and made a post on nationstates.

Considering that I want to destroy the world, this is not a day I will celebrate. :D

Happy friggin' Earth Day!
Now please god, fast forward armaggeddon? Seriously, I don't see a future past the 21st century unless we get off this planet. Between political dickering, profiteering, snail's pace space development and pollution, I predict that by the time i'm an old man the Earth will be unhealthy to live on. By the time my grandchildren are old enough, there maybe no Earth left.
I'd do something. Hell, I do things. I recycle. I don't even have a vehicle. I use public transit. I don't litter or anything. Not only am I environmentally concious, i'm too damn poor to own anything that will pollute alot!
But i'm just one man. Even millions of people can't make governments change their minds on the environment. We certainly can't influence corporations, who hold us hostage with goods we need to buy.
So, to tell you the truth, i'm not going to have kids. No point. They'll just inhereit one crappy, miserable, war ravaged, junk strewn planet. I'll leave the progeny thing to my brother. He always was more impulsive and shortsighted. He'll never see that his children will suffer more than he will in the future just as much as my brother and I have. (Don't believe me? GenX/GenY are supposed to be the first generation that is ACTUALLY worse off than their parents! HAH!)
