Funland at the Beach

The thread you've all been waiting for --- A Beach thread!

The beach. It's fun, it's dry, and it's dirty. Or sandy. Anyway, you've got plenty of things to do... You can dig massive holes in the sand, surf, bodyboard, run, swim, and pretty much everything in between.

I haven't been to a beach in years, but my favorite activity is bodyboarding. Well, that, and exploring the areas behind sand dunes (good idea to carry a large stick, so you can defend yourself from snakes).

What do you do at the beach?

Bikini-watching, mostly.

Occasionally broken down by swimming, bodyboarding, a little surfing, windsurfing, and of course, fulfilling the childhood dream of digging the biggest hole you can.

Last count it was over 6 feet deep, three feet wide, and ten feet long. Took two full days to dig, working in shifts of two people.

Damn. The biggest hole I ever dug was about two feet deep, three feet wide, and seven feet long. Took a whole three days, working two hours each day with my brother.

Funny thing: The last day we were at the beach, we went to the hole to dig, and we found a towel, some lighters, and an empty marijuana canister in the hole.

Nice

We had six people working in three shifts of two for a long time to dig it. Only stopped when we hit what seemed like bedrock.

Heh. This hole would've gone all the way to water-level. South Padre Island is pretty much a giant sand bar.

Sand castles are very tricky things to build. The best I've managed was a crude fort for my G.I. Joes back in 1992. It had some walls, trenches, and a parade grounds. It was crap, so I demolished it.

We also buried someone, as is the usual. Only we had him in a depression, and about two feet of sand on top of him, before sculpting an huge phallic symbol on the sand, and leaving him for a family with several young kids to walk past, giving him the dirtiest looks ever.

*Starts running around like a maniac chasing the seagulls away* Those damn seagulls....Think they rule the beach!

Once my family and I found this crappy little row boat filled with water in a shallow bit of the beach. We managed to empty it but as we were attempting to sail of into te sunset, all of us jumped in (there was 6 of us) and the entire thing sank. We were pretty deep out so we never saw that row boat again but it certainly gave us some clues as to WHY it had sunk in the first place...

Dig a big hole... then a trench to the waterline so that the waves will fill it up ... then sit and let the wet sand slowy bury you... Of course the hole isn't that deep...

if there are coral rocks on the shore line... go hunting for Opihi (good eating when roasted) and tidal pool hunting.

My lasting childhood memories of the beach is trying to walk barefoot over giant pebbles, or avoiding treading on spider crabs.
:(
Now my outlook has somewhat changed.

I'ts more the sun, sand, sea, sangria and sex bit, thats what growing up does for you!

Sounds like my kind of beach pass time!
Also playing all kinds of sand games (if it's not too hot)

I hate it when there broken shells or glass or whatever everywhere and you cut your foot but because of the salty water you cant feel it. Then, later on, you realise you've lost like a litre of blood....Or is that just me and my clumsyness?.......

I would have thought briny water would have accentuated the pain. Guess not. Perhaps its the cold more than the salt.
