I'm just not a big fan of anime, period. My suitemate showed me the movie one night last semester, but I didn't think it was anything all that great. It's just something about the quality of the animation that I don't really care for.
I'll probably be one of the few people in this thread who don't like it...

I never really got into Cowboy Bebop, probably because the first episode I ever saw was the one where everyone died.

Let's just say this:
I own the whole series and the movie on DVD and have framed artwork on my wall. So, yeah, I'm a fan.
Especially the music. Yoko Kanno and her band, the Seatbelts, are just plain outstanding. To be able to encompass so many diverse styles and make them all apply to the action in the show, and do it so effortlessly, is one of the most incredible feats of composition I've ever heard and I've heard a lot). The way "Bad Dog No Biscuits" accompanies the chase for Ein (3rd episode) and combines both dirty swing and ska in the same tune is pure genius. I would have assumed a chase even had I only heard the music and not seen the show.
The animation is among the best in style, composition and expression and ranks with any of the classics of anime. The story, while occasionally confusing (let's face it, it wouldn't be anime if that weren't the case) never fully loses the audience. Some episodes are riotously funny (the "Mushroom" episode), and some are genuinely affecting (the tortured assassin of "Pierrot le Fou"). I'm no anime expert, and I'm never an obsessive fan of ANYthing, but this is my favorite series, bar none (distant runners up would be FLCL and Golden Boy).
Good enough?

just think outside the box. the movie isnt very good for non-fans because its just a really long, really good episode that occurs more than halfway through the series. its not like its own thing. if you want a good movie get Ghost in the Shell (the movie!) at blockbuster or something.
