In an effort to find some good topics for discussion, I am turning to the Political Compass quiz. The majority of us have taken this quiz and put thought into each of these questions, so hopefully they can provide some useful debate. Maybe we will see some radical shifts in political compass scores.
At the end all votes will be tallied and the predominant votes will be entered into the political compass to find an consensus political compass score for all of General.

Question 3:
No one chooses his or her country of birth, so it's foolish to be proud of it.

Even if you didn't choose whree you were born, you can still like it or dislike it. I can understand why a person shouldn't be particularly proud of being of a certain nationality, but living in a certain country, definately yes.

Agree, but not strongly. There's nothing foolish about being proud of the achievements of your country's people.

Strongly disagree. It's irrelevent whether you get to choose where you're born. You're going to have a special attachment to the country you're born in and the people you know and knew there no matter what country it is. Furthermore, the interests of the country you live in tend to run parallel with your own interests. Not to have a devotion to them would be counterintuitive.

*agrees with Evil Arch Conservative, whom I vaguely remember sending a Gmail invite to, maybe, but this is irrelevant. waves*
Your nationality is a part of you. It's foolish not to be proud of it one way or another.

Ooh, ooh, this is great for cliches!
Pride comes before a fall, blah blah.
Nationalism sucks. Pride is more trouble than it is worth. Strongly agree.
I would once have agreed... now I call that, "being fourteen".

Wait, you strongly disagree? ... do you mean 'agree?'
(Hey. You might offend some of the people on this board who are no doubt 14)

Yes, yes, sorry, I'm rather drunk, and am afraid that I forgot the wording of the question between reading it, reading initial responses, and posting my own response :)

I voted 'agree' but it's not a very good question.
Rather, it's very foolish to be proud of one's country simply because it's our country.
It's not necessarily foolish to be proud of one's country for one's country's achievements (IE, if you with some neutrality would admire foreign countries if they had similar achievements)
