I have a question for blacks, and any other minorities. I have, over a course of time, came many good, but racist jokes. Do you get offender, when someone tells them outloud, or are you fine with it? I can tell you that I am personally fine with any Jew joke, as long as it is in good humor, and it is understanded by all that it is a joke. What about you?

I think that kicking people in the groin is hilarious. But I've found out through extensive life experience that it is best to be certain that the person you kick and those nearby think it's funny also(or at least are open minded enough to forgive bad taste in humor) before attempting it. I think a similar policy is a good idea with racial stereotypical jokes. *nod*

True wisdom.

A lot of gay jokes, I find hilarious. And a lot more, I find simply to be stupid. Same with Jew/Arab jokes, and mentally ill ones, too.

While I might be able to tell the difference, I find that most people are unable to tell the difference between unfunny, funny once, and eternally amusing humor. So you should probably find someone knowledgable who can make up funny things on the spot to evaluate a joke before retelling, just so you're sure it's worth other people's time.

As long as there is no harmful intent, I don't care. I mean, c'mon, Dave Chapelle makes a living out of ridiculing white people. I'm white, and I still think it's hilarious.

I'm gay and I laugh at most gay jokes, I guess it depends on who you're telling it to and what it entails. Use (un)common sense.

Intent and context is everything. Sometimes, too, people will say they're cool with something when they really can't. Tricky territory. I'm with LG on this-but that really almost goes with out saying...

It depends. I don't mind if my friends tell guinea jokes, but if some random guy on the street told one to me, I'd be liable to break his jaw. If they're people I know aren't prejudiced, then it's all in good fun.

Racist jokes are jokes. and should be taken in fun... as the joke teller you need to be aware of your audience... as the listener, if you get offended... please politly tell the speaker that you just don't find that funny. Most would understand, the rest... F&^K em.

Generally speaking, that's a fair statement.

It's a moot point, however, since the moderators and Max Barry set policy on this forum. I seriously doubt the moderators will bother to assess harm. They'll just react.

Nope-not intending harm is not enough, most people have been pretty clear on that. You can not intend harm all you want-but if you haven't taken into account how your "audience" is going to react you're bound to be in for it and all the "I didn't intend any harm"s in the world aren't going to bail you out.

that one was pretty stupid too...

I don't think racist jokes are appropriate, but stereotypical jokes often are. Poking fun at stereotypes about different ethnic groups is one thing, but demeaning a specific group by race usually isn't. I think it's usually clear when you're doing one or the other.
