This one is too hard for me to decide, they're both too good.

Jimi was the better guitar player, though Chuck was still fairly revolutionary in his time, it's just his songs are so repetitive.

Hendrix all the way.

Better guitarist, not that bad a songwriter... voice isn't exactly wonderful, but neither is Chucks.

Hendrix gets my vote anyways.

I definitely have to go with Hendrix, but Chuck Berry is a rock legend. In fact, Jimi Hendrix was very heavily influenced by Chuck Berry.

And he is still rocking today. Residents of St. Louis can see him at Blueberry Hill on Thursday.

EDIT: Chuck Berry that is, obviously.

Chuck Berry was the sole reason I wanted to learn guitar. I saw him perform Maybelline on TV and was blown away. I was 4 or 5 at the time. 30 years later, he still gets my vote.

Oh, and for those of you commenting on skill: Keep in mind what kind of equipment Berry used vs. Hendrix. Those old hollow bodies aren't exactly easy to "rock out" on. Trust me, I know. Hendrix would have had a hard time doing Voodoo Chile or any others on one of those older Gibson hollow bodies.

Chuck Berry deserves a lot of credit for being a trend setter. I credit Berry with the invention of Rock and Roll, which I will always claim happened when he released "Maybelline."

Hendrix simply followed in his footsteps 15 or 20 year later, but he was probably also more technically proficient. So I'd say technically Hendrix was the better player, but Berry was the superior innovator, which is why I say they're both good.

I do not care who you are, no matter how good you are. Chuck is a member of the Rock godhead. Even if Jimi was better technically (May have been, may not have been. Hard to compare such different styles. He could do everything chuck could, but we will never know how much of his stuff Chuck could do.) You just can't beat chuck. Besides, his music is cooler.[/opinion]
