I bet they'll only serve half of that with good behaviour

Am I the only one a bit unsettled at the idea of courts utterly ignoring concepts such as "jurisdiction?" This may have been used for good in this case, but it gives courts power to do evil in later cases.

Length doesnt matter, people spend a maximum of 30 years in prison in spain anyways.

The max. penalty in Spain is 40 years and they have no life imprisonment, according to the article. Thus this penalty is unlawful and will be junked by the highest Spanish court or the European Supreme court.

And people wonder why most States in America still have a death penalty.

That's 40 years per crime; he has 30 consecutive 21-year sentences (thats 630, not 640, but eh); one for each of thirty people he pushed off a plane.

That's easy. After he's dead, his kids should take his place. If he doesn't have kids, then his brother and/or sister should take his place. If he doesn't have any siblings, his father and/or mother should take his place. The cycle keeps going until the 640 years have been served.

Reason for editing: I don't know if it's 640 or 630.

9,138 years would be more appropriate.

Im going to laugh my ass off when this bitch survives for 650 years and gets 10 years to laugh at them for leniently sentencing him.

The article said that in Spain there is a 40 year max that a person can spend in jail not per crime. At least my reading of it is that way.

Just out of curiousity, does that mean a person who has spent 40 in jail can commit whatever crimes he wants without fear of being punished? Seems like a weird law.

Exactly, that's why I think that it is per crime - it makes no sense, otherwise.

Does anyone else find it odd that they do this to the only person who was trying to bring forward any evidence of the crimes?

That's probably why he didn't get the maximum 40 years per crime.
