Medieval/Rome: Total War: has anyone conqueored the world?

I have tried on both and have only ended up controlling huge, impossible to govern spaces. It is easier on Rome because a) factions do not come back from the dead b) the economics system makes sense c) rebellions do not start as easily - on Medieval it is very difficult indeed to control a large empire without your economy going into freefall. So I was just wondering: has anyone managed to conqueor every territory?

EDIT: On Medieval, my largest empire was when I was English - I controlled all fo the British Isles, Spain, France, Germany, Denmark, the Baltic States, Poland, Austria, a large chunk of North Italy, a big slice of Northern Russia, all of Africa and most of the Middle East up to where Constanipole is.

On Rome, as the Bruti family I have managed to conqueor all of North Africa, the Greek Pennisula, parts of France, all of Italy, most of the Mediterrean Islands, parts of Spain and a small part of the area in which Constantipole would be.

No on both games, mostly because it gets impossible to keep the people in the fringe cities happy when they're so far away from the capital. Every other turn they're revolting, ungrateful bastards....

No, but in Medieval, I did get all the way to the Middle east as Poland.

I did it in Medieval, both as the Danes and the Egyptians.

Egyptians was really hard because of the religious differences in Europe. I first took all of Africa and the Middle East, then expanded north into Russia. When I had taken over westwards to the Polish border, I stopped and focused on buildings and assassins. I really recommend using assasins early, since it helps keep even large enemy forces relatively ineffective if they have poor leadership. Eventually I attacked with 5 main forces. One by sea against England. Two from Africa into Spain and Italy, and two from Russia into central Europe. It didn't take very long after that to conquer the world, despite the problems I had with rebellions from uppity Christians.

The Danes were trickier. I immedeatly made an alliance with Germany and then focused on taking and building up the empty Scandinavian territories. I then focused almost exclusively on Naval build up and Assassins, and then owned the seas. The computer, for some reason, didn't bother with my navy...perhaps because I was too powerful, but I established good relations with almost everyone, and was able to trade resources to build up my land forces. I then made four large forces. One I left in Denmark, one attacked Africa just south of Spain and one attacked England. I sent every spare ship I had into the eastern Mediterranian. My feint worked, because almost every central European country seemed to think I was going to use my fourth force to invade Greece, and started re-positioning their troops. As soon as England was secure, I did a two force invasion of Europe from England and Denmark. My African force got bogged down pretty bad by the Egyptians, so I had to use my decoy force to help them instead of attacking Europe. This game took about twice as long as my Egyptian one, since the Italians had become a major power in central and eastern Europe, but by the time they built up a navy to try to challenge me in the Mediterranian, it was too late. I slaughtered them in the Adriatic and landed another force in eastern Europe...which hastened my eventual victory.

I haven't played Rome, and I haven't played Medival in a LONG time...I need to re-install that game and try with the British...something tells me that would be pretty fun.
