well if it's just a PLAIN HAMBURGER, then of course i'd take the philly cheese steak every time.

if we're talking about a loaded bacon cheeseburger with all the toppings i like, then it's a much tougher call.

and i need to go to philly, i guess, to get a real steak... since every cheese steak i've ever ordered (none in philly..) have come with melted mozzarella or provolone topping the beef instead of cheese whiz (or the melted cheddar sauce), which i've heard is how a REALL cheese steak is served.

that said, there was one place that made great non-philly cheese steaks... a little hole in the wall on State Street in Madison, Wisconsin called "Myconos"

man, the put the meat on the grill and then put the peppers and onions and cheese in with the meat till it was a big melted glob.

put that in the toasted roll, put some mayo (yum... mayo is awesome in sandwiches) and lettuce on it and BAM there was the sandwich.

I have a recipie for a good hamburger that will rock your fucking socks off.

Ingredients:minced horseradish, garlic powder, salt, pepper, worcester sauce, and dales.

For about 1 pound of meat use the following

2 tbl spoon minced horseradish
5 tbl spoon worcester sauce
5 tbl spoon dales

Take the ingredients and mix them into your meat. Now pat your hamburger patties out and lightly sprinkle a dash of garlic powder, pepper, and salt onto the outside on the patties on both sides. Now you're ready to cook your burgers! You can fry them in a skillet or grill them it doesnt really matter. But make sure you cook them thoroughly so there is no pink left. They should be grey on the inside. For best taste apply favorite cheese.

(note: you may make the patties as big as you like. remember they shrink when cooked)

Not Philly Chease Steak Burgers again. Only in America could a soggy excuse for a hamburger be considered the pinacle of culinary evolution.

Damn snappy! I wonder if theres any difference between a donair and a gyro - Ive seen them both made in a plethora of ways - and they usually look fairly similar. But yeah, stuffed grape leaves... hard to beat that!

I like em both. I dont know who is getting soggy burgers, but when I want a burger, its not going to be from Mcdonalds or Burger King.
No one beats an American cheeseburger in paradise-thick and rare on a toasted bun-ketchup and mustard, red onions, lettuce and tomato and maybe a pickle. With a frozen mug of beer.
Philly cheesesteaks rule too, but not with the "Steak-umm" type mystery meat. I like them with real thinly sliced steak, provolone(not easy cheese product) and red & green peppers and onions on grilled Italian bread.

The cheese steak and burger would never fight! They are brothers in the Order of Meat. Along with their meaty brethren and other food alllies (such as potatoes and beer) they fight against the evil SOY which trys to brainwash innocent people with wicked food products like tofu and soy milk.

*shakes fist* Damn you SOY! You and your army of wussy hippy vegans shall never triumph!

Consider the delightful irony of the cheeseburger and cheese steak.

Milk is taken from cow. Each go their separate ways. Milk gets processed. Cow gets processed. One day, milk and cow are reunited on a bun.

The Circle of Life is a beautiful thing. *weeps*

And as Carnivorous Lickers pointed out, anything that has "Steak-umm" is NOT a Philly Cheese Steak (see PM's pic - that's what we mean by "Steak-umm"). A Philly Cheese Steak should have very thinly sliced steak that has been chopped on the griddle as it cooks. And it should be on a cushy Italian roll (Amoroso's is a safe choice, although there are others that are better).

Oh, and one other thing.... if you get it with sauce, it should be with Italian gravy (thin tomato sauce), NOT meat gravy. Once someone (in Florida - yeah, clearly I made a mistake trying to order one there) tried to pass off a chopped beef gravy sandwich thingy as a Philly Cheese Steak... *grimaces*

some delightfully deep fried "fish" (which is an extremely broad term) and chips (fries) served up in yesterday's newspaper. A cullinary masterpiece. Dont forget the immodium.
