That's something entirely within your personal purview, my friend. I suspect, from what you've said here and elsewhere on General, that you're not exactly a risk-taker. If you're serious about making a change, start taking a few risks. It doesn't have to be anything life-threatening, just something new and slightly edgy.

Or take a course totally outside what you've studied before. Join a club. Volunteer for community service; helping others is the very best way I know of to get refocus your attention from yourself to others and do something constructive as well.

Well, allow me to spare some advice accumulated over the vast spans of my existence.

Nothing will just happen to you as you sit here typing at the computer. Ever! Fun things must in large part, be sought out or created.

And if something ever DID, you would not at all be prepared to take advantage of it or enjoy it. Furthermore, I contend that you AREN'T sick of it... you find comfort, security and entertainment out of your existence and that's why you continue it. Until you realize - truly realize - that you must change in order to find change, you'll stay exactly the same.

In short, your willpower alone is the only thing that is keeping you down, just as your willpower alone will be the only thing that gets you out of your current mess - as soon as you want to.

Lastly, whining will get you nowhere, as we all know from playing games.

So long as you're passionate about something you'll be fine. Are you passionate about cartoons? Are you passionate about gaming? By the way that you say that you really want something exciting to happen, I'd suspect that maybe you're not (though I don't know you well enough to say for sure of course - only you know), and you need something else in your life. I used to play loads of computer games and really enjoyed them, but I was never actually passionate about them. Ultimately, I didn't really care about them. It wasn't enough. Try a few new things. In fact, try anything new when you get the chance. Don't be like this guy I met in the first week of university - we asked him if he wanted to come out clubbing. He said 'No thanks. I'm a gamer.' As if gamers can't dance! 19 is a great age to be, so make the most of it, and get stuck in with everything new.

P.S. Don't worry at all about being a virgin. I was a virgin when I was 19 and I thought I would die a virgin. Now I'm 24 with an unhealthy reputation for sleeping with all sorts of women. It'll just happen. Be cool, be happy with yourself, and make a girl laugh.

I've had all this advice about getting out and about-the thing is, that I do get out and about... and often I have to kick the shit out of pathetic townies that start on me for no reason! Many of the younger ones are, hon. You just happen to be the exception that proves the rule.

Quite frankly, most people of whatever sex are rather "shallow" before the age of about 26-27, and some people are shallow their entire lives. Sad, ain't it.

And the really sad thing is, it's usually not their fault they're shallow ... they just haven't been challenged by life yet ... at least the younger ones. I suspect that the changes in your family life have made you mature a bit faster than most women your age ... just a supposition. :)

GET OVER IT

Honestly, get out there and live hard. When life gets you down, get on top of it and push yourself up. Find a hobby, do something fun. Hang out with your mates, go travelling. ANYTHING! But I can tell you, Isolating yourself, worrying about how you're not pulling chicks right now isnt going to give your cause justice. You'll find someone out there buddy, you just gotta have a little faith and start not caring about having a girlfriend, since you can have fun anyway...

Life's short, so you might as well enjoy what you have today. When you find someone, you can find me and tell me I told you right...

Oh, I don't think girls are shallow. Just that if there's no initial attraction, nothing happens. Unlike most, I'm the kind of person that gradually opens up. And I don't think I look that bad. I'm not "aaahh, look! a monster! eeek! (lol).

I've had many female friends. I seem to be able to get alot of those... In fact, the only person I'm in contact with from high school, aside from the blokes (the two mates I hang around with, known 'em since year 7) is a female. (I have a secret crush on her, but she doesn't know that!)
