If you had £1,000,000 what would you invest it into. I personally would invest it into an oil company on the stock markets. probably BP. or Tescos maybe.

First, I'd do a little traveling.

Then, I would purchase one of the unused or underused mill buildings in the area(Gigantic multi-floor brick buildings that are just sitting around empty or nearly empty) and begin rennovating it. I would turn it into my house/business. What would my business be? The ultimate fun house. Like the fun houses of seventy-five years and more ago, my fun house would be a little bit dangerous. Personally, I think there's a market for it. Enough so that the high insurance, on-site medical personnel and liability waivers would be covered and I'd still make a profit.

But if not, I'd probably make it a private fun house by invitation only.

Well...first off, since I live in the U.S., I have to convert to dollars.

As of today, current value of 1 million pounds would be $1,898,674.44
Call it 1.9 million dollars.

For $400,000, I can easily buy and furnish a house on a fairly large portion of land, anywhere in the country, as well as buy a couple of new automobiles. I'll probably research which states are better in terms of taxes to determine where I will live, although the Pacific Northwest has always appealed to me.

That leaves me 1.5 million dollars. If placed in a basic savings account at 6% interest, that amount earns me $90000 per year.

Since I don't have any payments to make on my property or my cars, all I have to worry about is taxes. While that takes a chunk out, (I'm not sure how much exactly, but I'll just say 50%), it leaves me with $45000.

Assume about $1500 per month for food, utilities, gas for my cars and auto maintinence, and I still have $27000 to spend on whatever I want, and 1.5 million in the bank in case of any extreme emergencies.

I'm forgetting insurance though, so even reducing that number again by 50% still leaves me $13500. If all my other bases are covered, I can EASILY live on $13500 per year.

So I don't really feel that I would invest in anything, although if I could find a higher interest rate for my savings account, that would be great! :)

For 1.9 million clams, I'd buy me 500 acres as far from anyplace I could get, possibly New Mexico or Texas, scrub land, and build a modest orchard/goat farm on it, with a two-room house, most of it underground, to avoid the heat.

That'd cost me in the neighborhood of 200 grand, give or take. I could live off the interest of the remainder nicely..so basically, I'd be doing what I'm doing right now, only on a larger scale. :) I'd still do a lot of woodcarving and play guitar and sleep most of the day. That'd be good. I'd have all the relatives over for a goat-roast once a year.

2. I dunno, I think I'd invest in the Iraqi Dinar (currency). It isn't worth anything now, but as I understand, if things go well in Iraq, its value will skyrocket!

I would put 1 million dollars of it into a long term savings acoont because it has a higher interest, but you cant take it out untill the years has past. But that will be fine since i still have 500,000 dollars still in the bank.

1 Million pounds = 7 million Ringgits. :) not bad. Would be enough to live rather comfortably unless the inflation doesn't keep on rising and the Ringgit turns into Yen or Rupiahs.

I can't store it in the bank. Our Interests rates here is only 2%. Hence, you see crazy people taking out loans to buy the latest BMW 7 series here.

Definitely finish University first. Maybe I'll still work a decade or two, just for the business contacts. In the mean time,

Probably I might invest in either properties. Probably a 3-5 good houses in good locations. And have a decent passive income monthly so that I don't have to worry too much if I lose my job.

Then the rest I'll probably start a restaurant business. Or some sort of service business.

Well.. We'll never know. For all we know, Iraq becomes a booming industry in the next 20 years, with 10% GDP Growth and the people enjoy great wealth, becoming the modern democratic capital of the Arabic worlds! :D

Wishful thinking.

Really depends. Especially on the rate of inflation.

I would prefer to keep my money in something physical, that would grow along with the rate of inflation. 1 Million Dollars may be alot right now. But maybe in 10 years time, 1 million dollars would probably be barely enough to send your kids to college.

What would you do with the other £999,999.95?

I'd buy a house. Possibly just pay off my mortgage. Then a mixed bag of investments, varying risk levels. I would try not to spend too much of the capital. I'd probably keep working too, smug in the satisfaction that I could just sod off at any point I wanted.

I'd put it in a bank account and live off the interest. I don't need much, just pizza and beer. And petrol for the brand new collection of exotic supercars that I'd buy... (that would be approximately two supercars in my collection, by the way...) :/

So. A simple question ruined by thinking too much.People talking about investing it in iraqi money, buying a goat farm somewhere in the arsehole of nowhere while finishing "uni".......FOR FUCK SAKE!!!!!!! What in the name of all thats good are you people on?????
Think of the largest bag of grass in the world,a line of coke about a mile long .Gallons of beer and bacardi, plenty nubile young girls(or depending on gender or preference boys) A million pound party.

Hey, don't knock the goat farm until you've tried it. Few dozen fig trees, few dozen citrus and cherry trees, a few avocado.. No one to bother, and no one to bother you. You'd never have to think about the "real" world again.. not that I really do anyway. :) I think that beats a few hours of some crazy orgy.

Maybe take a few years to backpack across the world with a friend, I don't know how, just travelling, doesn't have to be in fancy hotels or anything like that, just having the financial security to do so.

Have a nice home by the beach, a nice big telescope down the garden.

Stick a bit in investments, stick some more into high-interest accounts, and get myself a job.
