Best Album Ever?

The Tribes Of Longton

Channel 4 (UK) just had a top 100 albums, as voted by the C4 viewers. OK Computer came number 1. Above Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Guns 'n' Roses, Pink Floyd, etc. etc. Anyone else find that odd?

It was a public vote, so know. Public votes have a tendancy to be odd. I really have no idea what my favourite album is, for example, so I might just pick one that I listen to a lot, or one I have semi-nostalgic memories of, like Songs of the Distant Earth (Mike Oldfield) or Wish you Were Here (Pink Floyd)

...that was unhelpful.

That may be true, but why? Is it something to do with them being English? I mean, Ok Computer is a damn good album, but it's not like there aren't poor songs on it *cough*fitterhappier*cough*. There has to be an album somewhere without a bad song on, surely?

*Looks at her sig* ....hey!!!....

Ok Computer is a great album....I don't think it's good enough to be the best of all time....but eh, it depends who voted.

It was a fucking disgraceful. Despite ER, West Wing, Friends etc. plus the excellent 7pm news being on there, I can now never watch Channel 4 again. Loads of people saying it was 'different' and 'original': yes, different to have as a lead singer someone WHO CAN'T SING; original to write vapid crapulent bullshit and have it labelled as deep by a lot of complete fuckwanks. I mean, that Top 100 excluded 'Kind of Blue' - there can be little more said. Clearly the Radiohead fan club got together to rig it. It's absolutely disgusting.

Bah. I like it, but I guess my musical perspective doesn't help any. I'm still pissed there was no Metallica in there (MoP, greatest metal album of all time) and that Alanis fcuking Morisette was above Led Zeppelin! Alanis Morisette! What?

Lateralus by Tool. If you're into that kinda thing.

Also the Romeo And Juliet soundtrack 9from the Baz Luhrmann film) seems to be a good contender. Does that count?

MoP is very great...surprised it wasnt on the list

an album that really should have got on (if the band got a bit more exposure i dont doubt for a second that it would have) is "Blackened Sky" by Biffy Clyro. awesome album.

ANY album by Radiohead is orgasmic. That no 1 spot was well deserved.

What would you have preferred at no.1? I have my choice, but it never had a chance (didn't even chart, FFS). Did yours? And do we get to slate it too? :p

I love Kid A. Its just so beautiful and alienating. I'm always torn between choosing it and OK Computer as best Radiohead album.

Radiohead. The marmite of the music industry.

It will if I force feed it to you for trying to provoke me furth...damnit! :p

EDIT: So Golgo, who is your no. 1. Tell me all your secrets...

...you can say if it's Aqua with 'Barbie Girl' ;)

Look, had it been anything else, something I don't like, such as, for example, the above mentioned Alanis Morisette album, I would have been disappointed but ultimately accepting. Radiohead invokes the deepest vitriol in me; they fill with loathing the parts other bands can't reach. I'm sorry, but any kind of rational debate on their merits involving me is impossible. I just hate them SO MUCH.

EDIT: Ok, I accept your challenge. I actually answered this earlier today, so sorry if my choices are slightly different. In no particular order:

Beatles - Sergeant Pepper
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Elvis - The Sun Sessions (not, technically, an album, but, you know)
Uncle Tupelo - March 16-20
REM - Automatic For The People
Nirvana - Nevermind
Orchestra Baobab - Specialists in All Styles
