What use did you have in mind for the materials? It all depends on how they're used.

Well, in actuality im using the results from this poll to find which materiel I should deck out the bridge of my new spaceship with (in case you couldnt tell, im talking about an RP), but im not sure thats important.

In that case I'd say oak. It's stereotypical to use steel, but that's all it is: a stereotype.

Nothing better than a slab of rock in the sun...as long as it's warm. Nothing worse than cold rock.
But I digress...
If you're after a luxurious look, go with oak. If you're seeking to dazzle enemy and ally alike, use diamond. I think steel is more or less useless as a finishing material.

Don't use steel then, in Star Trek the poor sucker at the controls always gets electrocuted when the romulans nail them with a photon torpedo. Use something nice and nonconductive, like wood.

oh, come on, if your going to go with stone, go granite:D
non flammable, non conductive, relatively chemically inert(compared to marble), much more wear-resistant then marble, etc

Screw you all, I'd have an obsidian floor. Stylishly shiny black. Yeah.
*acts all gothic*
*realises it doesn't suit him*
*stops* Obsidian!

Yeah, but I bet I could get it to sublime into carbon dioxide with a well placed explosive. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand you're screwed :p

I'm not sure what you mean by comforting but I voted for Stone. Nothing like a smooth rock-solid ancient stone.

not with my star trek styleee shields! :p
Oak. Go for a classic look, and make it appear like a cultured study or library. That and a huge mahogany desk will really boost your culture factor.

Military : steel... higher melting point... solid construction... sturdy frame easy to repair.
Civilian/Luxury: Oak... while flammable (and free flames eat up oxygen) is softer and more soothing...

Diamond, that'd be kickin. Expensive as hell, but it'd be like a room of crystal or somethin, and the light shing through the crystals like a prism...It'd give off an effect to make the visitors fell like they're high! :D

When I say Diamond Plate, im not talking about the jewel. Im talking about the steel sheeting with the diamond insignia all over it. it helps you grip surfaces, and looks very... um... I dunno, like your seriously working. If I use oak, id treat it so its not flammable, and if i use marble, id use gravity fields or something to keep it from breaking. Good point about the helmsman being electrocuted, tho.

Leather-not for spaceship purposes, but the material I find most comforting.
