Crime Dramas

Is it just me, or does anybody else hate and despise them?
I wouldnt mind if it was just the first Law and Order, which was actually moderatly entertaining.
But it spawned Special Victims Unit, Cold Case, CSI, CSI: Miama, CSI: New York, the little known CSI: Ullannbbattar, and a bajillion other shows, each episode of which is basicaly copy/pasted dialouge from itself or another show with the names changed, and in some cases dont even bother with that because most of the actors do at least three differnt shows.
And THEN theres the fact that my parents INISIST on watching about half of them, which covers most of the days TV, meaning that now I miss the Simpsons (one of about three TV shows I regularly watch) so they can see what happens on CSI (IMO: The worst of the lot), and its a weekly fight to watch Mythbusters or Special Victims Unit on wednesday.
Its almost as bad as 'reality' TV.
I personaly hope that some horrible accident befals all television stations on the planet each time they air one of these shows.

BTW, not all of them are bad. I like to watch Monk every now and then, and like I said, the original Law and Order is fairly good.

It's a demographic thing. The Baby Boomers like to see criminals caught and the seniors like to see them punished. I suppose that's why CBS and NBC (the senior citizen networks) seem to run most of them.

In good ol' Britain, we've only got a few crime dramas, and luckily the majority of them are quite good. My personal favourites are Waking The Dead and Silent Witness. We do have CSI over here, but it's on Channel Five, so no-one really watches it.

It is happened here also :( Their is million crime dramas
in every channel. Most of them suck! And their's just too
much. I agree that original Law & Order is good. We see
some english shows too. they are usually better. I like
the one with with dalziel and pascoe very much. It's
maybe the best one there is :)

The generic, by-the-numbers network ones, most definitely.

Likewise, "The Wire" (HBO) is awesome.
I think the difference is that it's actually about something, whereas the CSIs and their ilk are just "look! we're showing a horribly mangled corpse in primetime!" and "look at how evil/unrepentant/sick criminals can be!"
