What the hell's going on?!?! Everytime I click on a thread to read it I get a database error. This sucks!

I've noticed, too. (This is the first time it's working since you posted this!)

It's seemed to be especially unreliable lately.

Yeah, I agree. When I tried to read threads yesterday it was going down 1 out of every 2 times.

Jolt is going the way of the old server. As a matter of fact, I don't think the rest of the Jolt community is quite happy with us causing the crashes.

Is it Jolt itself or just the sheer number of posts that makes it crash?

What did we do? We're just posting messages, not uploading viruses or anything.

Is it Jolt itself or just the sheer number of posts that makes it crash?Well, NationStates definitely beats all other Jolt forums with nearly 3 million posts. Naturally it'll be slow; I expect that. But taking 10 minutes to load a page with 6 posts, then giving me a database error shows me that one of those Forum Administrators isn't doing his/her job…

(Are there Forum Administrators? Or just Forum Mods? I've forgotten which.)

What did we do? We're just posting messages, not uploading viruses or anything.I suppose when 100,000 people are visiting the same site at the same time, it's bound to be slow. Also, it depends whether you have a dial-up line, a DSL modem, a cable modem, or a Fiber-Optic Broadband Extravaganza (okay, I'm making the last one up, but if it existed it would be really fast).

That's why I keep spider solitaire open at all times when on the board. That and FreeCell, lifesavers on slow loading days. (which is about everyday)

That's also why I look for the places in the house closest to the neighbors' DSL modems. We have super slow internet access here, and even with my 1.5 GHz computer it takes five minutes to upload each page on Jolt. Currently, I think the fastest access is found on the ceiling in the hall… (I live in an apartment building, so it's easy.)

Jolt is so frustrating. My parents say "20 minutes online". I post once, and my time's up.

I would be curious to know what hardware and software they're running, and how it's set up (i.e., is this some really nice ultrasparc boxes clustered together, or is it a cluster of old Pentium III machines).
