I have noticed that whenever arguing on these forums, if I ever state that I disagree with someone else, or that their opinions or beliefs are wrong or objectionable to me, I am often accused of wishing or attempting to silence them. It is an unhealthy trend I have noticed, and it seems odd that apparently in our society "I wish you didn't think that way." means "You are not allowed to think that way."
As an example, in the recent thread about the day of silence, I said that I thought the day of truth was insulting and rude to gay kids. I got about five posts saying that, no, I can't have them censored, they have a right to speak their minds. I'd never said that they shouldn't be able to say what they want, just that they shouldn't have said it.
Has censorship really become so commonplace that simple disagreement with a persons views can be seen as a wish to silence them?
