Is it possible to die of ugliness?

Well, since no-one else around here noticed it, I think it is incumbent upon me to point this out.

Yes, that's right. Andrea 'all sex is rape' Dworkin is dead.

Good-riddence to bad rubbish I say. Still the media is not clear on what killed her. I, for one, vote ugliness - but I recognize given my past history I could be wrong.

I will say that I am surprised that none of the radical leftists around here even noticed this happened. Perhaps a little more reading real newspapers and a little less Jon Stewart is in order, because, you know, in lefty terms she was a pretty influential thinker - she even got Micheal Moorcock to change one his novels owing to feminist 'concerns'. And you can't get more influential in the lefty world than that. (Well, she is also cited in tons of articles and shit, and she also drafted a famous anti-porn law with Catherine Mckinnon, but CHANGING A MOORCOCK NOVEL*, wow).

So what do you all think? Feminist visionary, or fat unattractive hypocrite?

I vote for the latter, of course. For one thing she was married - despite her pronouncement that all marriage is rape (it was always rape with that woman wasn't it?); but mostly because she read micheal moorcock novels, which are basically the collective fantasies of adolescent males, and about has far from her idea of suitable feminist cultural underpinning as you can get. It's like Eli Weisel sitting down by the fire with a glass of milk and a copy of Mein Kampf for a relaxing night's read or something.

Still I'd love to know what others think.

*There was one character around here a few months back who was arguing how true her all sex is rape viewpoint is. Despite the fact that he didn't seem to understand what she had actually said (although he claimed to live by it, or some such shit), his first name was also purportedly Elric. Frankly the degree of synchronicity - well I'm sure there is a better word for it, but I don't know what it is - was almost enough to convince me that freud and fellow quacks had a point (but not quite).

i find the discounting of a persons thought on the basis of their not meeting your exacting standards of beauty to be immature.

Thank would be AnarchyeL.

I saw her obituary in the papers, but to be honest it was not a name I was familar with (I recognised some of her quotations though).

*snip*

I noticed that Ms. Dworkin had passed.

Mocking the recently deceased is inappropriate and beneath you.

I thought you said you were going to avoid me?

And don't you tell me what is 'beneath me'. I'll be the judge of that. Can you possibly go a whole post without being judgmental of fellow posters? Look at how you laid into North Island about who's home it was without even knowing the facts.

Seconded. But anyway...

I for one believe that she was stuck in a patriarchal mindset. She trapped herself into believing what had been taught to her : that females have no choice, for rape means that there was no consent, that there is no freedom to choose to be involved in physical relations.

She was NOT feminist, in my view, and for her to say that she was, and for other people to say that she was is utter bullshit.

She seems to have the belief that only males have a dominant position in a relationship, are controlling, and manipulative. Why does penetration imply rape?

On a side note, I know of *ugly* people who get sex. Besides, if one turns off the lights, and if you're in love...
