What is the most versatile object/substance?

I have to go with duct tape.

But there are lots of very versatile things;

WD-40, superglue, jell-o, magnets, saran wrap, velcro and water.

But duct tape can work miracles. Once, when I was a sophomore in high school, several members of my wrestling team(against my better judgement and despite a tremendous amount of struggling) made a duct tape jockstrap for me. It was quite functional. Removing it was an exercise in misery,though. :(

Carbon. All known life is based on it.

I wanted to say duct-tape. Since you've stolen it from me, I'll think of something else.

Blu-tac.

it does everything.

Wood. I can carve anything out of wood. Or olive oil, you can cook anything in it. Or salsa, you can put it on almost anything.

I officially change my mind. Down with Blu-tac. LONG LIVE SALSA.

Indeed. Let us all hail the glory of salsa! :)

I dunno, I would say water. Without water, you'd be dead. Without water, your salsa would just be dried tomatoes (since the tomatoes need water to grow, there might not even be any at all!) Without water, we couldn't wash our clothes, our food, our teeth or ourself. Thousands of things are based on water. Paint, tea, coffee. Hell, even blue-tac probably relies on it at some point in the production process.

The tortila. Wrap any food in it and it is suddenly better. Everything is better in buritto form.

I could so go a Buritto just now. I concede my argument, you win.
