Swimming Pool Control Now!

People who own a swimming pool are 100 times more likely to lose a child due to drowning than people who own a gun are to lose a child through accidental shooting. It's time we concentrated our efforts to where they will do the most good. Let's ban swimming pools. Won't somebody please think of the children?

I think we have to go to the root of the problem. Banning pools isn't enough, we need to ban water. All forms of it. When you need to take a drink of water people should be required to have paramedics standing by or else risk arrest.

While we are regulating swimming pools we should take into consideration the malignance of Hydrogen Ether. It's involved in 100% of automobile accidents, 100% of drownings, and many other forms of death i'm not going to take the time to list. This dangerous substance is in the air we are breathing right now! What can we do to rid ourselves of this horrible substance.

don't forget those adults who mix alcohol and swimming pools, or those reckless fools who kill themselves jumping off the diving board (you know, the "assault" accessory for a swimming pool that makes it more deadly).

Absolutely. There's no reason for anyone to own an assault pool that's more than 4 feet deep and has such dangerous accessories as a diving board, slide, or a pool cover.

Does this pool ban adhere only to pools or to hot tubs as well?

Well you know, You have a point. I am never more than 4 feet from my kids when we are in the pool, and NEVER, under any circumstances are they around a pool without a parent. I had to jump in and get Reagan when she was 4 at the YMCA. She had just finished up a swimming lesson and all the kids were getting out of the pool. The lifeguards are SUPPOSED to stay in the pool until the last child is out, but they had all gotten out and were across the other side of the pool by this time. So she was on one side of the rail that was on the steps to exit the pool and she pushed off the rail to get to the other side of the steps to get out, and she pushed out too far . She went under water once, twice, I ran over to the side and reached out to grab her hand, but I couldnt reach her. She went under again and before I knew what was happening, I was already in the pool and had her held up above my head. Everyone heard a big splash and turned to see her dangling in the air and me up to my chin in water, fully clothed, purse floating about, camera around my neck and cell phone at the bottom of the pool. It happened in a matter of seconds.....that fast. I saw the fear in her eyes when she went under water that last time and just freaked out. The lifeguards came running over and apologized for not being in the pool and the other mothers were just staring at me and my drippy clothes.

My point is....it takes just a couple of seconds for a child to be in danger around water. Sorry for the long story DC

You're absolutely correct. Children in pools must be supervised at all times. I commend you on being a good mother and paying attention. Lifeguards often don't pay attention. I almost drowned at summer camp once, right in front of the lifeguard, who happened to be busy chatting with a camp counsellor. One of my friends helped pull me into the shallow end of the pool.

When swimming pools are outlawed, only outlaws will have swimming pools.

I may even install an areator and fountain, thus disguising my Assault Pool as an harmless Koi Pond!

You guys can't solve the problem by banning anything. You have to be creative, innovate! Instead of banning pools and shovels why not require all people to get gills thereby eliminating the dangers of pools.

The cost ineffectiveness would severly outweigh the benefits. By banning everything we save money and have extra money to spend on legal things like not pools therefore boosting the economy and upgrading the happiness and quality of life

Actually to save money we could just require all elementary schools be built around nuclear power plants the power plants could provide cheap power to the masses while providing jobs, and the radiation would stimulate the growth of gills thus eliminating the pool problem.

What if the radiation is counter productive and causes us to be hyper sensitive to water and cause us to explode as we contain H2O? or worse, what if it mutates the whales and they come on land and eat us all?

"My fellow humans, today we have met to discuss the prospects of outlawing swimming pools," said the President, addressing a huge crowd. "Certain persons have brought us to the realization that persons who own a swimming pool are 100 times more likely to have their children drown than gun owners with children are to have their children accidentally shot…er…yes. But banning swimming pools is not enough! We must ban all forms of dihydrogen monoxide! We must outlaw children to protect them! We must ban digging implements. What's more, plumbing is dangerous—it can be used to rout water to a swimming pool. We must ban all tubular objects for the safety of our children!"
Cheers broke out in the crowd before the President continued his speech. "The penalty for violation of these laws will be death! To deter criminals from harming our children, all offenders of the above laws are hereby sentenced to execution in public! In addition—I have wanted to bring this up for a long time—there are many other things that are dangerous to children.
"Houses for example. Do you want a house to fall on your child?" Shouts of "no". "We must ban houses, then! Cars! Cars run over children every day. We must ban cars! Lightning—lightning strikes children and electrocutes them. We must ban lightning, too! And computers—a computer can fall on a child's head and kill him or her! We must ban them, too! In fact, we must ban all sharp or heavy objects from America if we want our children to survive!"
At this point a heckler called out from the audience, "What about the ground? Children can fall on the ground and get hurt!"
"Exactly!" shouted the President. "We must outlaw the ground. Anyone in possession of ground will be fined $100 and the ground will be removed!" A summary of all the arguments in favor of outlawing swimming pools (and other objects, too). We should present it to Congress as a petition!
