York University now offering "Sexuality Studies" Program

College. That bastion of party life. The time when sex was everywhere. Now, at York, you can study it.
Currently, I'm still at York- I'm almost done, having completed four years (I'll need a fifth since I took the *scenic* route)- and, for the most part, I support the idea (and no, it's not because I'm a guy). However, having been at the University for so long this does seem like an attempt to *get on the map* by appearing innovative, even though this is the same University where the word "logic" has no meaning (to wit: the school is designed after an Arizonan university, which makes complete sense in the dead of winter... Oh, and that's just the start, but that's another rant for another day).
So what do you think? A legitimate program or simply an attention seeking move?
(By the way, let's try to stay away from the general "abstinence vs. sexual education" debate, because that's NOT what I want to debate here)
York isn't the only University that offers "Sexuality Studies" as a program.

I'm aware of that. In fact, I believe the University of Toronto offers a course on stripping if I'm not mistaken. I still think it's an attention-grabbing move though.

Meh, I think it's legit. We have subjects like that in our gender studies program. Sexuality, just like any other sociological area, is studyable! :D

Yeah, but surely that would take all the fun out of it?

Ah woops, I went to the "real" York University in England. Why is it called York university if its in Toronto?

Well, as long as the lecturers aren't too... dry and old-school academia, I don't see why it would. And discussions in tutorials would be interesting! :D

I go to the fake York uni. Its in York, but its not York University.
Go York St. John!

Technically speaking, the one in England is called "The University of York". We're "York University". Anyway, Toronto was once called "York" as well and the University is in northern Toronto, which was once called "North York". Hence the name.
As for the topic at hand: knowing York, there will be lots of diagrams and maybe a few videos, because we're the kind of University that likes to make a splash. York just doesn't like caring for its students.

I wonder if they're grading on class participation. :D
We should have such courses available here in New Zealand universities. I think it's genuinely a good idea.

And I'm going to NEW York Uni. this fall! Yay!
Its an important subject that doesn't get enough attention. It cuts accross everything from Sociology to literature and an in depth examination of it is worthwhile.

Berkerly offered a sexuality class that ended in an orgy at a gay bar. York, has been owned.

NYU ? pitty.. your over paying for the name... with an education you can get at any half decent New England University.

Toronto used to be called York for a bit if I'm not mistaken.
And studying human sexuality would be interesting. Though it would be better if it probably wasn't going to be rediculously popular, flooding any demand for any sort fo job for which such a degree would be useful.

i think the students in that class might have had other issues at hand then ~_^ if one class ended in a gay orgy

In York's defence, it hasn't begun yet. Who knows what will happen as a result of it.

I agree. I just wonder if York will take this program seriously or this is just some announcement made to appear innovative and then simply slap a few courses together haphazardly just so it appears to have that program when it really doesn't (see: "Astronomy", "Engineering")
