I'm getting seriously tired of all the "Internal Server Error" and "Page Not Found" and "No Thread Specified" messages on Jolt! Damn! Why can't they fix this damned thing????

Still better then the old server though.

(Though I think if it continues getting steadily worse then it will surpass it)

You have no idea. I have essentially a T3 here, but I click on a thread, and I can take a shit or make food before it loads sometimes.

first off, there's nothing wrong with such an experiment in digestion. it's highly amusing.
second, spook, i said make food, not eat it.

I am making food that way. My body is making the food digest. Shitting and eating simultaneously is an ironic action. But when you think of it, it's filling the gap for the food you just got rid of. That's what happens when you play with the Pandoras Box of Spookopolis. As for preparing food, no, the "fooding station" is too far away from the head.

I don't think Jolt could EVER surpass the old server. Although it is getting bad.

Jolt: Whoa! NationStates has a huge load of people! It's like, blowing my mind... I think I need to take a day off!

Old Server: Hey man, you know what'd be a hoot? If I don't show up for work for, like, a week, and then came in totally baked. I'd, like, keep falling asleep and drifting off and shit! I'd be totally rad!

I went to some place and saw a plasma TV in a juccuzi. At first I thought this thread was about Jolt Cola. I was about to verbally berate the person who wrote this, until I saw at the bottom left "Waiting for ...jolt.co.uk" after waiting a couple minutes...

Its still better then the Old Server. Word. And I wonder just how many " hard-core " players would like to go " cold turkey " again for 1 - 2 weeks during re-hosting, eh ?

Mean-while, I sit here on Ye Olde 56 K (Dynamic IP, woot ! ) Dial-Up.

And strangely, aside from when the ENTIRE THING dies on us for an hour or so, I have virtually no issues with this place, and usually, at most wait just a few seconds for a page load. And, I'm all the way over in Australia. To top it off in reards to the " quit your bitching " tone here, because in case none of you thought of it yet, a lot of down time could be from un-listed repair/up-keep, upgrades, etc. Not just sudden " kaputs " ...

No, no, no, no, no.

Man, were you even around for the old server? The longest Jolt's ever been down for is a third of a day. It's finiky, is all.

The longest the old server was down for was half a week. I'm no math genius, but even I know 1/3 is less than 3.5.

I live in Sydney, a good... shitload... of kilometres away from the U.K., and I have dial-up.
I've never had one problem with NationStates forums or the actual site. The pages actually load a fair bit quicker than most other sites.

No, no, no, no, no.

Re-read what I said. I distinctly did not say it has done so, but that at times it seems like it has, and I did so for a reason. ;)

Man, were you even around for the old server?

Also note that I posted under Daistallia from August 2003-January 2004, so I remember the old server darn well.

Like I said, seems like it has at times. It hasn't, but if the current trend continues, it certainly will.

*old nagging crone voice* Why, in my day, we'd consider it a good day when the forums would load at all even at 3 in the morning! And double posts, triple posts, even quadruple or quintuple posts didn't surprise us! We always kept backups of the posts we wrote, because you'd never know when the server would get all hungry and SNAP! eat your post right up like candy! *end nagging crone voice*

Seriously though, I rather suspect Jolt took a wee bit bigger a bite than they could actually handle. Give 'em time and I imagine they'll get it all straightened out. Compared to the old forums, the occasional error and downtime here is infintismal =p

Heh, the best thing just happened... When I clicked on the link to bring this post up, I got the 404... And then when clicking to go to Page 2, I got the 500...

Talk about appropriate...

But nevertheless, I can deal with that stuff... The server is likely under a lot of load at any given moment, and if something falls through the cracks, I have to accept that and try again once in a while...

However, there IS a huge problem that is apparently a programming issue rather than a hardware issue... And that is the whole "You are not logged in" business that always bites me after I've tried to submit a post (often lengthy ones that took a while to type, and would take too much time to type again, and would likely not contain the same force as the original wording)...

This happens far too often, and speaks of a problem in their code, which should be a simple fix...

Shhh!!! I don't think the Jolt server has learned that trick yet. We don't want to give it ideas.

Granted. But the problems do seem to be increasing. I hope that it's the darkness before dawn, and not Mr. Murphy....

This place is one of the least reliable sites I have ever been to. I've known copies of Microsoft Windows 98 that could go for longer periods without crashing than Jolt.

Notice I said 'one of the'. You know what site was worse? The original NS server. That thing was worse. So, so, so much worse. This is nothing compared to that. Some seem to have forgotten just how bad it was.

But that's no excuse for Jolt, though. That's like being tried as a murderer and using "AT LEAST I DIDN'T EAT MY VICTIMS LIKE THAT GUY DID!" as your defence. That won't get you anywhere. It's still bad! Jolt needs to shape up.

Well, they won't get any sympathy from me. I think it should be common sense that if you're going to take on an online game/forum with several hundred thousand players... you make sure you can actually handle that many!

I'm pretty sure their eyes couldn't actually see how many members NS had, because the big £ signs were obscuring their view when they thought of all the extra money they could charge the advertisers... I wonder if they make enough to cover the costs of NS?

Funny you should say that. The other day I found a folder full of *.txt files for that purpose. Many of them with replies for nations now defunct :(
