Already done that. First boy was Sean Michael named after me. Sean is Irish for John, my first name, and Michael was my Confirmation name.
Second son was Thomas Kevin. Thomas after my grandfather and Kevin my middle name.
If we had girls, the first would have been Laura Catherine after both their grandmothers. The second would have been Patricia Renee after their paternal and maternal aunts.
Whatever names you decide on, make sure both parents agree, and please don't name her Agitha Hildegard or name him Heratio Junior. :)

I'm pushing to just number the little hellions. (Hey, children are the Universe's way to punish you for the way you were yourself as a child...)
Maybe just use the last four of their social-security number (now that it's 'approved' without the kid ever applying-some voluntary system, eh?), there's almost no way to mispronounce 3459 or 2362 or whatever, and it will prepare them for later in life, when they're only a taxpayer ID number or Credit Report as far as the bulk of hte world is concerned.

Do note that while I would find it tempting to learn that my child would grow up to be gifted at this, sux0rz at that, I do draw the ethical line on modification of genes. Knowing about your genetic data can be fun; altering it is playing God imo.

hmm, lots of people here advocating odd names. out of curiosity, does anybody here have an odd name in real life?
i was given a first name that is very unusual (so much so that i have never encountered another person with my name, and my university of 35K students did not have anybody else with my name), but my parents also gave me a very normal middle name. they did this in case i grew up and decided i didn't like having a "weird" name, so that i would be able to use something more normal without having to give up using a name given to me by my family. maybe that's something you all should consider doing, if you are really considering giving your kids bizarre names. i love mine, and don't mind being odd, but i know other people who loath the names they were given because their parents were trying a bit too hard to be unusual.
Hmm, lots of people here advocating odd names. Out of curiosity, does anybody here have an odd name in real life?
My parents gave me an odd first name, and odd middle names. When I was younger I hated them, but as I've gotten older I've learned to like them (sometimes). I think parents should name their children something unique, but not something thats going to make their child feel awkward all the time.
