I've straightened my life out and become a good citizen, a good friend, and an honest person. It's an achievement because I was a criminal, drug addict, and as all addicts are, a liar.

Greatest achievement?

I guess, kind of like DC. I pulled myself out of an alcohol addiction before I turned into my father, I stopped being self-destructive to the point of almost killing myself or getting locked up through my actions on a number of occasions, have managed to get my relationship with my husband straightened out, and am doing a pretty damn good job of raising my daughters.

I value all that over the political and social activism I've done (and continue to do).

Thats the best post I've read yet.

I was going to say that I've tried to make people smile. I've shown the people I love that I care - and they know I love them. I will still have regrets about mistakes in the past, but not being able to change them - I have learned from them and if I die, I would like to think that it would be with minimal regret.

If I were to die right now, my greatest achievement would be in confusing the hell out of the doctors as to the cause of my death.

He said hopefully. I think I'm healthy...and I don't see anything terribly dangerous anywhere near me.

[That was supposed to be a joke. I've lived a rather boring life so far, with very few decent achievements.]

good thread , tink.

i have to say i have no one great achievement, my life, overall, has been pretty satisfying. i have kept up healthy relationships with my parents, 12 brothers and sisters, and extended family. i got the career i always wanted.i use my job to assist people who need it, and try to take it one step above, and beyond each day. i worked really hard to buy my house. i am very self sufficient. even though i am , at heart, kind of horrible- i still give money away to charitable things whose cause i really dont actually care about- but i dont ever want to be selfish. i have had my same friends since the first grade or so, and we are all living near each other, thats some fun stuff. i am excellent terms with my ex from the only truly serious, longterm relationship i have ever had. i think that is important. i have made people laugh, cry, scream in anger and in pain.
so i guess my best achievement, at a mere 29 years old would be that i have been, and always will be ,true to myself, and who i am.

Occy, you're not horrible at all! From what I've learned about you here in this forum you just have a helluva lot of heart. Finding passion in the things you have, and being true to yourself in doing so, takes more courage and strength than some will ever have the pleasure of knowing.

Greatest Achievement...... Hmmm...

Have to be the time I negotiated with the Aliens and gave them some swiss cheese in return for not destroying the earth. :D

Honestly, nothing much, probably made people's lives much more meaningful. Or maybe instilled ambition in some, especially my friends to achieve more.

Maybe give or take 5-10 years down the line. Then probably I would have be the man who cleaned up Malaysia. :D

I have never in my life intentionally hurt another person or animal. I have never been mean or spiteful. I have never been manipulative or greedy. I have never sought worldly gain at the expense of anyone. I have never sought to impose my world view on any person. I have loved and been loved.

I have served my country and have given my children a strong foundation on which to live. I have walked in the sun, barefoot on clean earth that I have tilled with my own hands. I have shaved the beard and combed the hair of my dieing father. I have wiled away entire days doing nothing but watching flowers grow.

I have met and hugged Bob Dylan.

I'm pretty sure if I died now, I could die content.

My commitment to charity, I guess. It's not really an achievement but I've done a few things. For example, I've started an annual food drive, give blood every 2 months, give regular monthly donations to the Red Cross and the United Way, occasionally support random other charitable organizations, and volunteer with Project Literacy.

Hmn...most likely proving everyone who doubted me wrong.

My elementary school teachers branded me as "difficult to teach" and "an ADD student".... They also wanted me to be placed in a remedial class.

But, I soared above them, and I took all advanced classes in high school, and got into college, and I'm going to graduate next year.

Helping other people. hmmm...something concrete

I locked two guys (two separate cases) in my room, fed them, gave them new clothes and gathered all their important stuff from their apartments (sounds pretty scary? please stop reading now, it would be great that you'd keep the image of what happened by what I've written this far) to help them to stop taking heroin. They could not get to the rehab centre immediately and I knew that if they had to stay at their apartments meanwhile they'd have changed their minds. So I locked them up and pretty damn proud of it.
