I was born in China but I live in the US. I think the culture and people here in the US are better than back in China, where there is more racism and ignorance, but one thing Asians generally have right is that they value academics almost before their lives, and work very hard in school. Although I am personally an exception to this rule, I am a slacker and ne'er do well.

So where are all the other Asians on this board?

In the regions of China, Singapore, Japan, Asia, Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Korea, Hawaii, etc., etc. -- most don't post on the forums so you won't find them here. There's also a region called Azn Pride but I've never been able to figure out whether the residents are actually azn or not.

There's a chinese takeaway/fish and chip shop next to my work. The guy who owns it is one of the friendliest people ever.

How about that song... I don't know how to spell it in Hindi, but it's basically, "my pants are English, my (something) is Japanese, but my heart is Hindustani."

Of course. :D Shah Rukh Khan.... *drools* Well, as long as he's not in profile!

You don't go to James Ruse High by any chance? *shifty* (I dunno, the whole "curry Australian" thing points me to my old high school...)

Hey, don't think I've lost the hatchet! One wrong move and it's out of the chest in a second! Well........okay, I'd need to find that chest first, but once I do the hatchet is going right towards your skull! Actually, I'd probably need to move out all the crap that was in the chest before I could get to the hatchet, but once that's done I'll be hatching before you know it! Wait, I'd probably need to sharpen the blade first, it's been months since I've used it and it's probably gotten dull. Okay, I find the chest, dig out the hatchet, sharpen it, and then I start hacking at your limbs! Of course I'd probably need to polish it first, it's probably all dusty.....ah, screw it. Just be damned to hell and we'll call it a day.

Some youths (and not just limited to Asians, I think) do value academics over their own lives. I don't know the most recent statistics, but at least a few unfortunate kids have killed themselves over the shame of bad grades. (...and if I were a responsible debater, I'd look up sources on this.)

In all things, seek balance. Working hard is one thing; making life-or-death decisions based on your report card is something entirely different.

That's a quote similar to the Satanic Verses (Don't ask)
"O, my shoes are Japanese,
My trousers English if you please,
On my head Red Russian hat,
But my heart's Indian for all that"

PS: I'm very South-East Asian

I find it striking how Filipinos are now considered Asian but in the past they were categorized in the same category as blacks.
