It seems that every remotly potical thread ussially evolves into a flame war and evidance vs evidence match and neather side ever seems to convince each other and theres a endless line of threads that are about the same topic and have the same result so I ask why???

We've all been down that road...several times....a day.

Have you considered how you actually learn anything about political positions at all? What happens is two or more people of difering political persuasions start to discuss, argue, cajole etc. You hear, see or read this, and find yourself agreeing with some points, disagreeeing with others. I fthe participants then, in some manner label themselves, you know which political group you belong to. Or maybe discxover that you don't belong to any.

The rehashing and repitition does get boring, but these threads get started by people who have had an idea that is new to them or have a doubt about something. Discussing these things is essential to a functioning democracy. Don't complain.

Unfortunately, that's the case for most message boards. There are a couple others that I frequent that definitely turn to flame wars a LOT less than most. It's a decent forum where there are people from across the political spectrum, not to mention across the world.

People just have to know when to have restraint and know when not to lob grenades as it were...

A reason theres so many flame wars is because of the number of people who post here.

Why does there have to be "a point?" Perhaps it's just to sharpen our debating skills; an exercise in intellectual gynmastics. :)

And more specifically, the number of posts that are truly flame-worthy is absolutely staggering.
