That's right.
For all the High School NSers, when is prom? are you going? Do you know what the school has planned?
I actually just got a date tonight, prom is planned for April 30.
Last year my school rented out the Phoenix Civic Center Grand Ballroom (Phoenix, Arizona, USA)
The main event in high school life is nigh.

Been there, done that, enjoyed myself, danced terribly.
Enjoy it, BLARG. As of this moment, high school - specifically my junior and senior years - was the best time of my life. Of course, I'm only a college freshman. ;)
Pfff. If I went to a public school, I'd rather spend the night out on the town with friends. I simply cannot stand pompous, pretentious kids flaunting themselves.

Yeah, I went last year , and am a Senior this year.
But I can't wait to get to college next year.
Pot- I go to private school so I get to watch Rich pretentious people show off.
And besides that, there is the dance-off between some of the most awkward and funny kids in the school. I saw them go at it at the X-mas dance, it was funny as hell.
Yep. My school lets all the HSers go, so my freshmanness gets to go. Since I have a boyfriend I've got an automatic date. Set for May 6.

Im a sophomore, so im not allowed this year. But my school is so prim and proper (for a mostly upper class white school, uh) that they dont call it prom, but the high school "Formal Dance", and have all these invitations sent out, basically more circumstance then necessary

Main event in high school life? Of course not. The main events in high school life tend to be long, gruelling, excruciatingly painful standarized tests.
I don't know if I'm going to prom. I don't think we have a junior prom...we might. I don't even know if I'm going next year. What's the point?

Well my prom is on my 18th Birthday, so If a certain person doesn't go with me, then I'm going to strip clubs with a different friend.
-snip-
Ask a few of your friends if they'd rather do something else, say, go around and... Do things. It would be much more fun than a prom.

Any idea where you're going to college, BLARG?
Edit: Says the guy who should be working on a major paper.

Eh, I might. I'm not that concerned about it really...oh well. I'll put off the decision to then, because I'm such a procrastinator. So says the person who, at 1:30 am, ought to be sound asleep, but isn't.

I just went to Jr prom last night, and I had fun but was wishing the entire time I had gone with someone else who broke up with his girlfriend after I got asked. If all goes well, he'll ask me to his Senior prom, which is in about a month I believe.

I guess I won't be the first to say that Prom is overrated.
Mind you, formal wear and dance floors have never been my scene, but for one night I decided to go out and have "traditional" highschool fun. It was alright, but people were overly sweet/gushy, and I've had better food at home. Overall it's not all the hype makes it out to be. As Potaria has pointed out, chillin with close buddies is far more fulfilling in my opinion.
It's all about what you do after prom that makes it special.

It would be one hell of a night out on the town.
Prom doesn't exist in my school.
I guess I killed it. :mp5:

After my prom a bunch of my friends and I rented two camp sites side by side near lake Ontario and continued to drink our faces off until sunrise.
...Everyone's got their own ideas of fun though :)

after prom = hotel room with more alcohol than should be allowed in one place at any time along with a lot of drugs.

sounds like a problem to be solved by holding an unofficial, unpermitted anti-formal.

which will almost certainly be safer than my after-prom experience

Hotel rooms are alright but you're contained to a small area, and it costs more. Campsites are where its at (weather permitting)...
PS be sure to ditch the formal wear before attending any sort of afterparty.

Hah i got asked to 2(WOW) in my time:
1st;I said no because she always got me and my friend confused(She thought i was my friend although maybe she did want to go with me???)
-I doubt it!!!
2nd;My friend who was very very HOT!!! asked me i said yes but didnt really show any sign of caring so she changed her mind and didnt even go herself
-I was really sore about that(Trying the whole Not caring thing is evidently BAD!!!) :(

Walking around town, going to a few places, and then ending the night at a campsite would be perfect. That would be the hell out of a prom.

may be further complicated depending on state laws - we weren't allowed to camp in il state parks back in high school, because a few of us weren't 18.

I'm surprised there's been no school prom shootings/bombings yet.
Proms and such formal dance events are ultimately designed to glorify the popular factions (by the crownings of Prom King or Queen) of the student population. Typical school shooters are social underdogs who loathe exactly this type of elitism.
Perhaps it has to do with the fact that Proms usually occur at end of school year, and their suffering is almost over.
