What country makes the best pizza?

Having recently been to Italy, and have tried pizza in nearly every region. And having lived in the USA my whole life, I can say that the US has better pizza.
Now Im not saying I especially love the pizza chains such as Dominoes or whatever (even though they arent too bad.) But nothing beats the local pizza places. I especially prefer The US's thick crust to Italy's thin and sometimes almost no crust. Plus America has the distinguished Boston style and Chicago style pizza (and who could forget the deep dish?) Plus our gormet pizzas cant be beat.
Although I do love Sicily's square oven baked pizza.
BTW I couldnt think of any other country that makes recognizable pizza but thats why I put other.

Original is best. They don't do too well in deliveries but nor are they all dough. Not that I don't like deep pan, there just isn't pizza like the real thing. And I've had a few pizzas as my mum used to work for Deep Pan.

Thin crust is what a pizza is all about. Italian pizza made fresh out of the oven can not be beaten. if you want to eat crusts then i suggest buying bread. Italian icecream is also very nice. ive been there once for one week and i had pizza everyday and it never got boring.
However i have not tried american pizza. what type are you on about cooked from frozen or freshly cooked? The worst pizza however must be tesco value lots of bread with a little bit of cheese and tomato paste. urg.

I have never eaten Greek pizza...sounds good because I eat tomatoes, but I'm not that thrilled with them because the acid burns my lips.
By the way, you can use acidless tomatoes on pizza (they're an orange color)...that might help your heartburn.

Italian. I still remember a delicious Italian pizza I had many years ago. Italian pizzas lay more emphasis on taste, while American pizzas are more... well, thick and stodgy. That doesn't mean I don't like American pizzas; I do enjoy them from time to time. But they can't compare to those fine, delicate, tasty Italian ones. ;)

Maybe the key is fresh pineapple. Ever since I went to Asia, I have not eaten pineapple. The fresh, tree ripened pineapple you get there was great. The canned is horrible, and the "fresh" you get here is not tree ripened. It's like eating "vine ripened" tomatoes in the winter. Ugh! Blah!

Worst pizza I ever had, in fact the worst "Italian" food I ever had was in a hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Philippine cooks were good but what they had to work with for pizza was not. For the pizza: pita bread, some tomato sauce, topped with some kind of meat and goat cheese. Just terrible.

As for thin-crust pizza, i'd say New York and Italy are about tied... i like the crust and non-cheese toppings of new york pizza, but the sauce and CHEESES on Italian pizza kick tail.

yeah, you look at your pizza when you get it and think, "I paid $15 for that?!" but two pieces later, when you're full and have 6 pieces left.. enough to feed you for all of the next day.. it turns out to be a pretty good deal.
And.. Chicago deepdish pizza is so rich... just incredibly good.

at our hotel in Cancun (presidente intercontinental i think) they made a version of pizza... with (lol) only ham and cheese on top. Waqsn't bad, but since they skimped on the sauce it tasted like a mushy ham-and-cheese sandwich. lol

I've had Giovanni's pizza and it's good but it's basically an open face sandwich. The flavors of American pizzas cannot come close to the Italian because Americans tend to use pre-packed, processed and preserved ingredients. In Italy, the ingredients are fresh, it's baked on the spot and you can't get any better than that.

It's all about the chef. The restaurant is far more important then in which city it is, let alone in which country.

I can make a tomato gravy in 15 minutes, or slow cook it all day, depending on what we're doing. In the late summer, I love to use my own fresh garden plum tomatoes, basil and parsely-sometime grilled eggplant. There is no reason to use ketchup. There should be an ordinance to prevent that.
