Well? Which is it?
And, before you bring it up: Spinal Tap doesn't always use umlauts. :)

Shihäd. From what I've seen, the only time they spelt their band name like that was on the back of their first EP 6 albums ago :D

Interesting band... you'll understand that I've not heard of them, so please excuse them not being on the poll... :)

Yeah it was only on the back of their Devolve EP that they wrote their name with an ä rather than a regular 'a'. It was simply 'Shihad' on the front. I have no idea why it was written like that on the back, and didn't really expect anyone to know what I was talking about :p

Fair enough. Though judging by the voting, I guess bands with umlauts aren't very popular... :(

Blue Öyster Cult

Though I have never understood why it had an umlaut above the O.

Nor I.

BTW, if you live anywhere near New York: they've sometimes played as "Soft White Underbelly". It's an alter ego, so they can try out new material and not play as "BOC".

technically some of those are diaeresis, not umlauts...

Anyway... At the moment, my favourite diacretical band is probably the Spanish power/folk metal group Mägo de Oz :p th3y iz t3h r0xx0rz.

HÜsker DÜ, while most of their CDs (most certainly not Zen Arcade) get repetitive because all the songs sound pretty similar next to eachother. However, mixed in with a 800-song playlist, it's very refreshing.

As a speaker of a language that uses umlauts (Svenskan är ett så skönt språk!), I find those names (except Björk's) hilarious, as the umlauts make them sound so stupid.

Indeed, and its not as if the rest of the world think the Swedes sound funny or anything.

Anybody who thinks Swedish sounds like those sounds the Swedish Chef makes has obviously never heard Swedish.

While I'm not surpriesed that Amon Düül & Green Jellÿ are tied at no votes each, I'm VERY surprised that Blue Öyster Cult or the Crüe would have it.

BTW: If you post for Queensrÿche, this is for you! :)
