Just watched a program on The History Channel about the Limba, who have always claimed to be the "lost Tribe of Israel." Turns out, after DNA testing, that they really are! Amazing!

Which of the tribes are they?

Judah is comprising now of the Jews mostly in Isreal and other places.

The Sons of Aaron are hard to find...they still have the power of the Aaronic preisthood if they are found.

So which tribe is Limba from? There are only 10. They must be one of them.

im NOT looking it up, dammit

so how do they know they are related to the LOST tribes (where would you get the dna for that?) as opposed to being related to the existing tribes?

To lose one tribe is unfortunate, to lose 8-10 is careless.

Where are the Limba now? And what does this matter? They get political power in Israel now? I guess they can't call themselves the lost tribe of Israel anymore. Are they itching to exterminate the Palestinians too? lol that was a joke - chill bill

Well there is a genetic map for being Jewish. Descendents of Israel (the person, not the country) have a specific genetic map.

However, there are 10 lost tribes.

The original 12:
(1) Reuben
(2) Simeon
(3) Levi
(4) Judah
(5) Zebulun
(6) Issachar
(7) Dan
(8) Gad
(9) Asher
(10) Naphtali
(11) Joseph
(12) Benjamin (my tribe ... woo!)

When the Assyrians ejected the tribes from Israel, the Judah and Benjaminites remained. The other ten were lost to history.

The Lemba claim to be Levites, Kohanim, but there's no way to test that. It's only known that they are descended from one of the above 12. Whether lost or not, it's hard to say.

so they can say they are of ancient jewish descent. not unlike those ethiopian jews, but they cant say for sure that they are from the lost tribes, and if they are, which one?

The program didn't say. I suspect that the DNA matching isn't sophisticated enough to tell.

I tuned in on the program late, so I missed where they mentioned where in Africa they live, but I know it's sub-Saharan. I imagine you could look them up online though.

the levi's being lost. eeerrr im only a simple biblical student (i have many talents) but i thought the levi's were the demi-preist class, like the priest helpers. As far as i know they are very much aboot, hell i knew a guy with levi as his last name, total dick head but thats not important.

I believe that only half of the tribe of Benjamin remained.

i'm always amused by the 'lost tribes' fascination. its not like people go about wondering where the lost tribes of the akkadians or something got to.

When I first saw this thread I thought it was about Rush Limbaugh being the entirety of one of the lost tribes of Isreal! Now wouldn't that be a kick, old Limbaugh being a lost tribe of Isreal? He could do things then, big things that mattered.

Have other tribes of Israel done big things that mattered?
