I've tried lots of browsers but I'm sticking with IE. Irrational preference if you will..

Should have got Opera. Needn't have had to look for all the extra plugins, it all comes as standard and you get some good skins. (Not compatable with the Beta unfortunately)

You cannot uninstall it, as Windows uses it as a file manager as well. You can, however, disable access to it under "Add/Remove Programs*".

Personally, I prefer Opera: www.opera.com

*My Windows OS is in Swedish, so YMMV.

Just wait until IE7...
They are fixing all the bad things there were and bringing Longhorn improvements on XP.

IE7 will not be released to any other OS than Longhorn.

I <3 Firefox. I've been meaning to give Opera a shot though.

IE7 will be released for XP too, beta testing will begin this summer.

Oh, apparently they changed their mind a month or so ago. I guess they could no longer afford to ignore the cries of IE users...

Opera is rather nice.
I personally use Firefox, but if I can de-fuckup Opera, it has some features I appreciate.

Absolutely do not uninstall IE. You need to to access Windows Update.

Besides, its always a good idea to have a spare browser if the one you usually use decides to explode.

Firefox is the browser for me, I've got the directions on how to upgrade it with very little effort, I'll post them shortly

He he... You should have tried the mozilla suite a couple of years ago... It's come a long way since then.

Found it! I got this from someone on NS a while back, and it works wonders.

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

When I downloaded it, it was retarded. I'm fine with IE as it works relatively fine with me. Microsoft just needs to add some more CSS support, damnit.

Be advised that that little trick may end up getting you banned from som sites whose admins don't like such behaviour.

Hm?

What you're doing is sending 30 requests at once and then waiting very little time for them to complete. It's not nice to servers.

Probably takes up extra band width?

No pop-ups with FF either. I've been using it for about 6 months now and love it.

Don't uninstall IE. There are a few sites that will not work with FF. Save IE for those sites.
