Irrational fears

The Return of DO

Anyone else have one? My irrational fear is of midgets. It's not a hatred, I know it's not their fault, and I feel really sorry for them, but they scare me. Plain and simple.

Ok, seriously?

Sleeping with my body right next to a wall.

When I was little, my older brother told me not to lean up against the wall when I sleep, or else a monster will come out through the walls and snatch me.

It was an irrational thing, and a joke that was perfect for scaring little kids. But to this day, not a single part of me ever touches a wall when I sleep.

I don't really think spiders count as irrational. I meant stuff like midgets and sleeping next to a wall. I used to be the other way round, I hated sleeping with my back to an empty space (more room for monsters to come up and grab you). I also used to be scared of going to the toilet because after we watched "IT" when I was very young, my brother told me that he was going to pull me down the toilet. My mum had to come with me for weeks. My friend's mum once told her that if she turned off the toilet light without washing her hands first, a monster would chase her and eat her. So, instead of washing her hands, my friend used to turn off the light and run as fast as she could to her mum. Weirdo.

I'm scared of lady bugs, butterflies, worms, bees, spiders, rodents etc, small spaces, large spaces, heights (as in being up in a tree/flying where you can look down and see your high up, not as in being on top of a mountain), large and small dogs that bark loudly, and anything icky looking.

Plants aren't creepy. I have a venus fly trap and that's just interesting.

But for no apparent reason, moths scare the hell out of me. Like menacing butterflies....

A friend of mine, who's 6'8", fears wasps, he's in a constant state of war with them. It takes him a lot to not freeze up when a wasp is around. Funny though, he doesn't really fear anything else. But a little wasp freaks him out.

Then again, if I would have been hit by one repeatedly years ago in kindergarten I'd possibly freak out too.

Um most of the posts i read dont seem irrational. I went to one board and they had irrational fears such as one person had the fear or edges without railings even if they were several feet from it.

I just remembered, there was something like this on Maury. A person was about 6'3 and 220 pounds was afraid of a wee lil peach. How can you be afraid of a peach? They were never alive and were made to be eaten.

Despite almost a thousand military parachute jumps ( including one that almost killed me ), I'm still afraid of heights. Except now at least I know that I can make myself overcome it. That's a very valuable lesson.

I'm not really bothered by them anymore. I actually like plants now. I know many of the edible, poisonous, and medicinal plants in the Northeastern US, and have found endangered plant species growing in local woods.

I don't like standing near flowers.

I hate going near the edge of platforms that are high-up.

I'm deathly scared of needles.

I don't like sleeping alone in a room without something liek a blanket over my head.

The most irrational fear I have is that, while lying in bed (back to a window, open spaces on both sides, so I get to feel niiiiiiice and vulnerable), that if I close my eyes, when I open them there'll be a body hanging from my light fixture, a la one of the Eternal Darkness insanity effects. It's entirely illogical (I don't even think my light fixture could support the full weight of a dead body). Nonetheless, even thinking about in passing leads to me staying awake until 6am. If I try to put the light off before it starts getting light out, I get all scrabbly and frantic and have to turn the light back on again.

Another irrational fear I have is of something being under my bed. My futon-based bed. The one with a good five centimetres of space under it. The scariest thing that can *logically* be under there is my cat, but we're talking about irrational fears here, so logic need not apply.

... and people wonder *why* I'm so jumpy sometimes...

I'd sleep with a weapon, except I fear things like undead-hanged-corpses-that-appear-when-I-close-my-eyes. I doubt even a pocket flamethrower could provide any comfort against my pet irrational fear.

It's also uber-fun because my cats like coming in at 2am and climbing into my wardrobe... which then creeeeeeeeeaks open. I wake up to the door swinging open in the darkness, and the mysterious rummaging sounds of the cats molesting my shoes.

You'd think the abject terror would wear off after a few dozen times, but I can tell you; it doesn't.

i also fear getting into bed and closing my eyes then opening them back up to have dead bodies hanging from the ceiling. but along with the bodies, my room is being flooded with blood. i can sit with my eyes closed for hours and i won't open them because i am convinced that things that couldn't be there are there.

my other irrational fear is of spiders. but not normal crawl around on the floor or in a terranium spider, i am okay with those. i am afraid of sucking a spider into the vaccuum and when i leave the spider will crawl back out but it will have morphed into a saint bernard sized creature that will come and eat me. so i never suck up spiders with the vaccuum...

Actually, the smaller/medium (black widow, brown recluse, etc) spiders scare me. The biggest ones I have no problem with (tarantulas, those hand-sized ones (name?)) since they are so big they can't sneak up on anyone.
