Forget it Jake,

Cannot think of a name

So, everyonce in while I get this urge to respond to something, to start going at it, fighting the good fight-pointing to that thing that seemingly just be obvious, then I think-nah, more trouble than it's worth. It's not going to work, you'll just end up being a jerk or they will or you both will or worse, no one will be able to tell who the jerk is, or their misunderstanding or disagreement is soooo far down the logic train that you are about to argue that it would take months to unravel. So, cause I was bored and the forums spent so much time making me entertain myself I made this:

'cause I don't know where you cats go to get those little posters. Ever feel this way?

I should add that this isn't meant as arrogant as it comes off-while there has to be some to it that I have to own, but it's also those fights that you chose not to fight because you don't have the tools you are going to need to deconstruct what will come at you. Which I view as a shortcoming.

I am Chinese and find this post offensive. Also, as fortune would have it, my Taoist Truename is Jake Tzu.

Wha..... Dont get it.

Not understanding a thread rarely prevents me from wading in with a comment. I say "just go with the flow, Dude." From the Taoist viewpoint, this represents the ultimate stage of human existence. And it pisses people off.

Huh.

Wha..... Dont get it.
It's the quote from the movie Chinatown (which in reality has little or nothing to do with Chinatown)-the idea being that no matter the intention, the effort will be lost, that the 'normal rules' would not apply.

Which, I'm going to guess, is where the offense is coming from. In this the film is suggesting, by inference, the notion that Chinatown-and by extension Chinese and asian cultures-lie outside logic and reason. While this inference is readable and consistant with depictions of asians in american cinema (from Broken Blossoms(1919) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0009968/) to The World of Suzy Wong(1960) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0054483/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxteD0yMHxsbT01MDB8dHQ9b258ZmI9dXxwbj0wfHE9d29ybGQgb2Ygc3V6eSB3b25nfGh0bWw9MXxubT1vbg__ ;fc=1;ft=20;fm=1)) By refering to that line I inadvertantly reinforce and tacitly validate that idea. Which really wasn't my intent. Like the movie, it was echoing an asthetic that came from the time where those films made that inference and kept it.

Without the inference, it's a 'losing battle.' In the context I was using it, it's the fight that will be more trouble than it's worth, and won't get you anywhere. But you still want to fight it. But, it's Chinatown (but only in the movie sense and not in any real implication of actual Chinatown.)

Huh.To be honest, I am not Chinese. I was not offended. I have no Taoist Truename.

I merely tried to set up a contradictory position based on a logical system that could readily be found in Chinatown. This would have given you the perfect opportunity to display your visual rebuttal. You chose not to, and thus have now hurt my feerings.

I actually kinda figured. I honestly was hoping to get the same response. We both blew chances for it...

Just trying to help you out, that's all.

Though I think in retrospect it works best when you see a compatriate stuck in a conversation that will lead nowhere.
